  • WR makes Seahawks cuts with only 3 years of football

Wide receiver Jordan Kent made the Seattle Seahawks final 53 man squad after playing only 3 years of football in his life.

During high school in Eugene, OR, Kent was an outstanding basketball and track star. He never played football during high school.

The University of Oregon offered him a dual basketball and track scholarship. For the BB team, he played small forward for his father, Coach Ernie Kent.

In the spring of his junior year, quarterback Kellen Clemens(now with the New York Jets behind Brett Favre) encouraged him to try out for the spring football session. He amazed the coaches with his speed and athletic ability.

During his junior year, he played in a reserve role. By his senior year, he was a starter.

The following year, the Seahawks drafted him. They realized he had strong potential as a receiver after only playing football for two years. They put him on the practice squad to expand his football knowledge.

This past preseason he caught 9 passes for 115 yards scoring two touchdowns. Yesterday, he learned he made the final 53 player cut and is on the regular roster.

What a remarkable story in overcoming the odds of making it to the NFL.

It'll be hilarious when he has a 1000 yard season this year and holds out for more money insisting he needs his props. That seems the normal thank you teams get for developing a future grocery bagger into a pro athlete.

What difference does it make where he came from or how long he played? If he plays at a certain level, shouldn't he get paid the same as other players playing at the level?

Didn't they already make a movie out of this with Marky Mark?

This scenario would be very unlikely for a fine young man like Jordan Kent. Besides his father, UO basketball coach Ernie Kent, would strongly counsel him against it.

Ernie Kent has received accolades not only for developing character in his players but having one of the highest BB player graduation rates in the country.

The Red Sea has parted, and Kent will probably get a bunch of snaps early in the season. Engram is out. Branch is out. That other kid just broke his clavicle.

Will Kent become a viable fantasy option?

If he's wearing assless chaps in the fantasy, then yes.
