Did anyone see that illegal contact penalty that Dre Bly got called for (and now fined for complaining about).
I don't want to talk about whether or not that was a valid penalty - refs make mistakes, these things happen at high speeds and demand instantaneous decisions, all the regular reasons for questionable calls.
I wonder about the assessment of the penalty - 5 yds and a first down? That seems out of line with other penalties? It seems foolish that a penalty that is only deemed 5 yds because it doesn't affect the play (or it would be PI) can get a team from a 3 and long to first and ten.
BTW I thought it was pretty funny the way he put it. He admitted they got a few earlier this year (a nod to the Chargers game) and figured the calls were just the refs in the process of evening things out. That little comment cost his $20k
