  • Official Packers thumping the Panthers Gameday Thread

Ok, I haven't started a gameday thread yet, and I want a shot at running out the season.

This is obviously a must win game. We are at home, we are playing an NFC foe, and we have to keep pace with the winner of the Bears/Vikes game.

Carolina has benefitted from an easy schedule this season, but the record doesn't lie. This isn't the team that started Vinny Testaverde against us last season so we have to be ready. Delhomme isn't Brees, so we should be able to exploit him in 3rd and long, maybe 2 picks could redeem the Defense a bit and make the offenses job easier.

The thing that concerns me most is that I read MM saying he was keeping them indoors because of the weather this week. Heaven forbid you might practice in the weather the game is going to be played in. Maybe the NFL will consider letting us play the game inside the Hutson center. Last season we had some real issues with the elements, time to see if they are more prepared for the frigid weather this year or not.

For me to have any faith in winning the division we have to play a clean, low penalty game. I would like to see a strong running game, and a defense that wants to make amends for that abomination on monday night. Most of us accepted that we wouldn't be a superbowl contender this season, but hopefully we can make the playoffs, win a game or 2 and show that we have reason to be optimistic for next season.

    GO PACK GO!!!!

This is a completely asinine statement and I get really annoyed when people say the reason the Packers lost is becuase they didn't practice outside in cold conditions. Just go back into the history of the Hutson Center and previous coaches. How many times did Mike Holmgren have his team practice in cold weather? I believe NEVER or almost never. His teams never had a problem with the cold. Mike Sherman, ditto. His teams never had a problem with the weather either. This wholepremise of having to practiice outdoors so you can play the game in it iis complete crap.

I don't recall how often they practiced outdoors under holmgren and sherman to be honest, there wasn't as much information as there is today. That being said I'm not saying it is for sure the reason we lost. But honestly in that bears game, guys were dropping easy passes, the punter couldn't handle a snap, ect. I could be way off base here, but it seems to me if you haven't PRACTICED catching the ball when its fucking frozen solid, it might be harder to do it when the time comes.

same goes for the kickers, if you don't practice kicking a frozen ball (and we all know its harder to do) then when you line up to do it, it might be difficult. probably around the 4th quarter you will have it figured out though.

          Packers will win

Besides having more all around talent..........it's going to be cold and the Panthers QB is coming off Tommy John Surgery. He is not the same QB he was in the past and that was average. His arm may be jello tomorrow. With a solid QB outing the game is closer.

Even Vanilla Bob can figure out how to contain the run at home with Delhomme leading the offense.

They are overachieving, a concept foreign to the Packers

Eventually the record needs to reflect our talent

          Green Bay Wins
TERD Buckley over Troy Vincent, Robert Ferguson over Chris Chambers, Kevn King instead of TJ Watt, and now, RICH GANNON, over JIMMY JIMMY JIMMY LEONARD. Thank you FLOWER

But on the flipside, if you are out in the cold , the players are so concerned about keeping warm that they can't concentrate and focus. And yes, Holmgren did use the Hutson Center when it was cold. That is what it was partially built for. Coaches and players can focus better on practive and putting in the game plan better when they aren't combating the cold.

EDIT: As for Ryan and the Bears game . That could have been recified in the game if Rob Davis had acually watched how the Bears long snapper was snapping the ball. HE would have immediately realized snapping hard line drives was the way to go instead of trying to use the wind to guide it back.

By winning, wouldn't we be keeping pace with the loser of the Bears/Vikings game??

Yes - we'd still be 1 game behind the winner.

Doesn't "keeping pace" mean maintaining the same interval?

I picked GB high this week in the confidence pool; maybe I'm stupid but I keep coming back to who has more talent and the fact that it's at home against Jello Arm
