  • Brian Orakpo

Will be the Packers first round selection. http://www.nfldraftdog.com/2009_NFL_...ian_orakpo.htm

If the season ended today, the Pack would be selection somewhere between 9-11. Orakpo could be there. He has had an outstanding season, and can play 4-3 or 3-4, which could be important if the Pack changes DC's. He is not necessarily considered to be an elite athlete, so he probably won't rise up the draft boards out of the Packer's reach like Mario did.

If he could be a dominant defensive end that would be a good start to fixing our defensive line. Maybe a good replacement for KGB.

he would have to add 10-20 pounds to be an every down DE

I decided to take a look at the draft eligible players. To a blind man the Packers need help at defensive end, tackle, and offensive tackle.

        Maybe the Packers go safety.

Thompson will probably go wide receiver.

I would be fine with finding a stud safety early in the draft. Actually any position on D would be fine with me for the first...i dunno 16 picks.

Initially, he wouldn't have to play every down. He would play when Jenkins moves inside. There are a lot of DE's in the NFL that aren't all that big. Guys like Peppers are a rarity.

He will be once the combine arrives. The dude can bench press 510 lbs and runs a forty yard dash in the high 4.5's. He is going to shoot up draft boards.

He fits better into a 3-4 as a rush LB anyways, like a DeMarcus Ware. Plus, he would have to add some weight for TT to justify picking him 10th overall. TT is not going to draft a guy who is only good at one thing (rushing the passer) that high.

Everette Brown looks great to me. He has an impressive up-field speed rush but also mixes in a good counter spin move and rare club move. He's not huge (about 260 lbs) but he plays very powerfull and explosive. I'm sure he could gain 10 lbs in the NFL without losing much of his explosion. To me, Brown looks like the best DE in the draft. He'll probably go before we pick with our luck though.

260-270 is probably the average size for defensive ends in the NFL. So if a guy comes in at 260 I am more than ok with that. Kampman goes maybe 270, and KGB was lucky to be 250. Most fall in between.

Again not many guys roaming around like Mario Williams and Julius Peppers.

Reggie White at 305 pounds was an absolute freak.

Not big enough, we would have another KGB vs Run.

NOW......if your talking about a switch to a 3-4 defense, by bringing in one of Dick Lebeau's coaches from Pittsburgh....you really might have something.

There's also a 6-7 end from Georgia Tech that's supposed to be highly rated, Michael Johnson. He's about 260, but with that height I'd think he could put on a few pounds. Anyone watched him play this year?

For those looking for a run stuffer ESPN has Terrence Cody, a 6-4 375(!) pounder from Alabama rated in the top 15. If the guy has any kind of mobility at all, that's pretty scary.

There also looks to be several good OL at that point.

I guess the fact that I started looking up draft stuff last night says it all...

Hopefully we've learned a lesson about leaving guys like that in on obvious run downs. If the guy can get to the QB, I don't care if he can stop the run. We'd just need someone to replace him on non-passing downs.

all you need to know about mount cody

for those keeping track, thats the center and the guard that he pushes back into the fullback, then dominates all three to kill the rb

Hell yeah, Red. I like Terrence Cody and Evrette Brown. One is a rare gigantic, powerfull DT and one is a complete pass rusher packed with size, explosion and a big time arsenal of moves and counter moves.

There are several others that are more or less specialists but I think there are two that sort of stand out as being great so far.
