Saw on PFT that Jared Allen was flat-out BEGGING Viking fans to buy tickets.

With the current financial situation, I couldn't see the state gov't. helping Wilf finance a new Vikings Stadium.

Dare we say the LA Vikings (or some new name) will be coming in the near future??

The Vikes are down to 3100 tix and have until 3:30 tomorrow to sell them. If they just sell 1000 more, I'm sure the FOX station will buy the rest for the sellout.

I think Zigi is nuts in asking for 600M from the state. He doesn't have a chance in hell of getting any financing this session, IMO.
All hail the Ruler of the Meadow!

After funding Twins and Gophers stadiums, I don't see the state gov't helping Wilf regardless of the economic situation.

The Gophers stadium was a 50/50 split with the state I believe. Plus given they cannot move anywhere it's a solid investment for the state.

The Twins got a partner with Hennepin County as Gov Pawlenty stated that the state will not help out professional sports teams.

Wilf had a deal going with Anoka County but then left them to try and get in on the Twins financing and the Twins and Hennepin County told them to get lost and then Anoka pulled the financing plug as well after that stunt.

Wilf's only option, IMO is having the Metrodome redone. It will be far cheaper and worst case scenario he can use the Gophers stadium for a season to get the Dome done. Given the lower cost, he may actually get some help from the state if he guarantees the team will not move for another 30 years.

The Metrodome needs a ton of work. That place is a shithole.

There is just a general feeling that the Vikes will disappoint. Now before the Viking rats here get all hot and bothered, this is what I'm hearing from the fans and the media. NBC sports director Randy Shaver has said it multiple times. Given that 55% of the season tix holders declined to buy playoff tix, that gives a whole lot of credence that that argument.

People can bring up the whole economy being bad, but this has been a chronic problem for the Vikings to get sellouts for years. So it's not the current state of the economy is not the primary factor. It's the general feeling about the team.
Viking Rat here in total agreement with the above. Although I will say that Minnesotans are also frugal/cheap with money. There is good and bad to that and in the case of trying to pry money during Christmas season and bad economy, good luck. I am native Minnesotan so I can say that from my experience. Harv is right as well that the Wild just haven't had the chance to disappoint the population yet like the Vikes.

What if ticket purchasers get to cast one additional vote for Al Franken or Norm Coleman?

No way they'll have a blackout. At the very least, they could have Allen (who's on the Vikes homepage begging for people to buy seats) buy the remaining block of tickets (it'd cost like $150K). Don't these players make a bunch more for winning division or hosting playoff games or something - to buy the tixs, give them to charity and 'play for free' would seem to be a big statement and something to rally around for the playoff run....

I wonder if people have gotten used to the TV station buying out the remaining tickets, and the people get them for dirt cheap from the scalpers.

I guess we can all see why the Vikes had trouble selling out now, eh?

Well, in their defense the Vikings fans made that a very unfriendly stadium for the road team. Plus, if the Vikings had any of the top 16 QBs in the league, they probably would have won the game.

But yeah, you could have seen that one coming.

I hate domes..I mean I think domes are for wimps. Honestly football is meant to be played in all weather and it wouldve been great to see them play in the 2 degree weather. O well.
