  • I Want Lechler in Green and Gold

He is a UFA. The Raiders will need to use the franchise tag on Asomugha. I assume he would prefer a warm weather (or domed) clime to ply his trade but let's go Corleone and make him an offer he can't refuse.

Did you see the impact the San Diego punter had on their game last week? He consistently pinned Peyton down and helped that defense in a big way. Too many Ryan and Frost shanks to count. Not sure either guy on our current roster is the answer.

A punter isn't a sexy free agency get but I say we make it happen. (and can we please not turn this into a "TT doesn't like FA because he is an asshat" thread? I'm fine with any other opposing opinion than that one.)

I'd love it. Kapinos didn't do too badly, but Lechler is one of the best punters in the league. It's kind of funny, the punting position really doesn't get talked about a whole lot unless there's something wrong with it (although SD's punter got a lot of publicity after his game last week. He was unreal). We talked about it a lot this season on here. You're right, a punter is not a "sexy" signing, but if a team doesn't have stability at that position, they're going to lose a lot of field position battles.

TT won't cough up the coin for an actual everydown impact player...he sure as hell won't fork over any coin for a punter.

We need a punter so why not make a run at the guy...he was the best in the NFL in 2008 correct?

He did make the highest offer in the league to Adam Vinatieri. But, like Vinatieri, Lechler could easily decide playing in a dome/warm climate is more important.

For the record, I too doubt this will happen.

I'm just saying...when has TT even CONSIDERED a slight name at the kicking position? It's been all rookies and unknowns for the most part filling in the kicking duties.

Kickers hate coming to Green Bay anyway...you'd have to REALLY overpay them to get them to come, because they won't be the best kicker in the league anymore when they come to Lambeau.

TT was the highest bidder on Vanateiri

He should take a shot at this guy too
TERD Buckley over Troy Vincent, Robert Ferguson over Chris Chambers, Kevn King instead of TJ Watt, and now, RICH GANNON, over JIMMY JIMMY JIMMY LEONARD. Thank you FLOWER

I think he made the offer fully knowing it would be declined...just so Thompson had something to point to and say "look, I tried".

Premier kickers just aren't going to come to GB via free agency...kickers are whiny bitches by and large, and won't like the fact that Thompson is likely to screw them over by changing their holder 3 times in a year.

Even if you are right, TT still made the offer. Had Vinatieri accepted it, TT would have had to pay it to him. So you can't say he won't offer coin to a kicker.

Yeah, he has been pretty damn good for a number of years. I will admit I haven't broke down his stats in bad weather.

Still just 32. Played his college ball in Texas so presumably cold weather will be a hard sell but money talks.

6-10 hurts the play for a contender angle but I think we should take a swing. MM talks alot about +/- in the field position game, a solid punter goes a long way towards helping that.

Right. He didnt really want him so he tried to make him the second highest paid kicker in the league.
