  • New Strength Coach

Link: Because the JSO hates us

Dave Redding, worked for Schottenheimer for 23 years. Made the USA Strength and Conditioning Coaches hall of fame in 2006, he's also a free weights guy.

    Any thoughts?

Free weights make stronger prisoners so they should also work on football players as well.

This guy was quite literally among the first wave of strength and conditioning coaches in the NFL. He was hired either by Marty or Sam Rutigliano for the Browns when not all teams had a guy on staff. For football and the weight room, this is old school.
Bud Adams told me the franchise he admired the most was the Kansas City Chiefs. Then he asked for more hookers and blow.

Capers? Cool. Now if we could just sign Kevin Greene, Greg Lloyd, Rod Woodson, Levon Kirkland and Hardy Nickerson.
At least we have Greene now .
Woodson is probaly stil under contract for NFLN.
But maybe Kirkland is still available

I'm getting visions of rocky in my head...swinging the axe, chopping wood in the snow. Old school :P

Anyway, I'm a HUGE fan of free weights as the muscles supporting connective tissue build along with the main movement. I don't really like isolation machines.

edit: Now if only we could get MM to practice outdoors when its -35.

I don't see what was so bad about our previous weight program:

I think weight lifting is bad for football playes. Makes them too musclebound.

You never saw art donovan lift any weights...cept for 16 oz.

According to McCarthy when he took over the team, we hired "the best strength and conditioning coach". So this guy is the new "best"? I will believe it when I see it.

ha! Rocky IV is what I thought, too. He's takin' those guys up into some cabin in the backwoods.

True that. I ain't never seen no damn iso machines in the yard.

There ain't no strong like prison strong. And to get priosn strong, you move iron, simple as that.

Well it's a good thing he's a free weights guy so we don't have to do another overhaul on all the weight equipment like we did when McCarthy first got here

He's been in the biz awhile and working for Marty Schottenheimer has some cachet I guess..I'm fine with the hire.

Plus, he's a hall of famer at his position. I believe that's going underappreciated.

                            OK, hold the fuckin' phone.

Rock Gullickson was supposed to be the "anti-machine, I love free weights" guy.

Now we find out Redding will go back to the future, & use "old school" free weights.

IOW, the same rap all over again.

So this all sounds like bullshit.

There is some other reason for Rock Gullickson's firing, but I can't figure it out.

Someone, provide some GB scoop, if ya please.

I thought Rock started out with free weights and then moved to machines in the last year or so??
