Did Mike Sherman actually hit on a draft pick?

Yeah, except looking at things now, TT has a record of about .500 as the GM of an NFL franchise who recently hosted an NFC Championship Game, while Sherman has a record far below .500 with a middle tier college team because he couldn't win more than a couple of playoff games in his entire career as GM/HC. And you can't use the "Well Brett took this team to the NFCCG..." arguement because Sherman had Favre the whole time and didn't win squat.Originally posted by texaspackerbackerSTILL a lot of Sherman-hate around here.
I wonder, statistically, how the Sheman-haters correlate with the Thompson-haters. Both are about equally irrational IMO.

Sherman was 57- 39 as HC. As GM he was 44-27. However, he took a talent laden squad and totaly destroyed the team depth by making trades like a 5th & 6th for R-Cal Truluck. Based on record Sherman has the edge right now. However the measuring stick that is the standard in the NFL is playoff games. TT -1 NFC title game. Sherman-0. You ask any expert and they will agree that TT is better than Sherman.Originally posted by GunakorYeah, except looking at things now, TT has a record of about .500 as the GM of an NFL franchise who recently hosted an NFC Championship Game, while Sherman has a record far below .500 with a middle tier college team because he couldn't win more than a couple of playoff games in his entire career as GM/HC. Sherman also had an edge in talent. He began his tenure with a roster stocked with Ron Wolf pickups and a fairly healthy team payroll. Thompson began his tenure with a roster full of Mike Sherman pickups, outrageous Mike Sherman contract extensions for players who didn't deserve them, and about $5 under the cap to play with. Sherman didn't exactly start from scratch like Thompson did, because he wasn't the HC during a transition period.Originally posted by cpk1994Sherman was 57- 39 as HC. As GM he was 44-27. I should hope that Sherman or anyone else in a situation similar to what Sherman was in would have a better regular season record than Thompson or anyone else facing a situation similar to what he first walked into here in Green Bay.
But, as you noted, the real measurement of a HC/GM is playoff performance. And Thompson has already eclipsed Sherman in that regard, with a nearly completely different roster than Sherman had for 5 years as our GM. And there's no reason to believe that Thompson's group won't continue improve, given the youth of the team and the quality of coaches they now have. If you can't get excited for this team right now...Chuck Norris doesn't cut his grass, he just stares at it and dares it to grow

Boy, ol' Sherm was opposite of TT in terms of draft philosophy, huh? He threw draft picks around the way offensive linemen threw R-Cal around."The Devine era is actually worse than you remember if you go back and look at it."

R-Kal Truluck. That's when I realized Sherman was in over his head. Giving up TWO picks for a guy that was going to be cut in a couple days anyway.Originally posted by FritzGood ol' R-Cal.

If I was Harlan, I definitely would have taken GM away from MS with the BJ Sander debacle. Trading UP to get a punter who wouldn't have been drafted by anybody?
Sherm was a pretty good coach. Harlan named him GM to stick it to Holmgren. They should have gotten Sherm a Mark Hatley type guy (or replaced Hatley after he died on the job) to work with him.

Mike Sherman hit on plenty of picks; his downfall was packaging picks together when there was no need toTERD Buckley over Troy Vincent, Robert Ferguson over Chris Chambers, Kevn King instead of TJ Watt, and now, RICH GANNON, over JIMMY JIMMY JIMMY LEONARD. Thank you FLOWER

Javon Walker is Can't Get Right, because he never got it. Even after 2 huge paydays, he still never got it. Loads of talent, nothing between the ears. Has no heart, still complained about 7 million dollars for 1 performing season. Compared being a WR to a soldier in war. He had little between the ears, including mishaps on jetskis while contract prohibited so. Wasted pick.Originally posted by packers11you guys forgot Javon Walker...
He was a stud for that 1 year in GB and was awesome that 1 year in Denver... If it wasn't for injuries he would be a top 10 receiver...
