I thought there would be more action in this thread - maybe it's too early.

Is it fairly definite that Parsons will miss the early part of the season?

    2 QB: ditto above
4 RB: ditto above plus Jaden Nixon (maybe beating out Moore as a kick returner)
8 WR/TE: delete Neyor and maybe Moore, add R.J. Maryland as a 4th TE/hybrid WR
9 OL: not 10, delete Monk and J. Williams. add maybe Gesky
    6 DL: ditto above
6 EDGE: ditto above plus Mosby
    5 LB: ditto above
6 CB: ditto above (I'd like to see Hadden kept and Keisan cut, but I doubt that happens)
    4 S: ditto above
    3 ST: ditto above
What could be more GOOD and NORMAL and AMERICAN than Packer Football?

RJ Maryland is the Oedipal son of former Pack great, Russell Maryland.

I think Russell Wilson will end up being Love’s backup.

The Packers are fine at backup QB with Ridder and now that UDFA who looks like he could be as good or better than Willis. Yes, Maryland is the son of that guy - the former #1 overall pick. Did you see his video? He looks damn good.

Too early even for a junkie like me. If Lloyd so much as gets a hangnail I think its time to cut bait. I absolutely hate Ridder so I'm hoping for something happening there.

I say its too early because we don't even really know who will be competing with guys like Glover. Monk is a true center so if Burton looks good there he could be shown the practice squad.

I will say this much though. Gutes has made his intentions pretty clear on about 48 of the guys.

Monk may be the most on the bubble veteran on the roster. He's probably toast if Burton beats him out for backup center. Monk did play well in that regular season finale against the Vikings when he played Center surrounded by backups against the Vikings starters.

J Michael Sturdivant is a guy to watch. Was projected to be a 5-6 round pick. Elite size and speed who just never had great production in college.

              Overview

Sturdivant is a traits-based wideout whose production over the last two seasons doesn’t match the potential he shows on tape. His combination of foot agility, vertical speed and ball skills should allow him to run routes as an “X” or “Z” receiver. His routes could use better attention to detail to help increase his elusiveness at break points and free up his catch space. He’s very tough over the middle and will not shrink from combat catches. He can accelerate quickly to add run-after-catch on short throws. His run blocking is adequate but needs more strain. Sturdivant’s ingredients make him a worthy middle-round investment, as his best football could be ahead of him.

              Strengths
              • Tall, fast and long with ability to play “X” or “Z” spots.
              • Former sprinter with sustained deep speed to separate vertically.
              • Has the footwork to run a varied route tree on all three levels.
              • Clever in outfoxing the coverage and defeating his leverage.
              • Size and toughness to protect catches through punishing hits.
              • Ball skills to outclass corners when contested outside the numbers.
              • Good post-catch elusiveness to tack on yards after catch underneath.
              Weaknesses
              • Never came close to replicating his catch production from 2022.
              • Below-average salesmanship to tilt defenders at break points.
              • Average quickness when gathering and opening on comebacks.
              • Plays with some route drift, making it easier on the coverage.
              • Run blocking could use just a little more strain and grit.

Looks like the Packers signed Tyrod Taylor,
a graybeard. Guess Russell Wilson, another graybeard, ain’t willing to return to Wisconsin, where he remains the flagship university’s GOAT QB.

Also Ridder is released. He looked good against the Packers once upon a time. What happened?

Old, never any good, and often injured despite minimal playing time. Why bother? Find someone with an arm and develop him.

                      College career

                      [edit]

Vander Kelen played at the collegiate level at the University of Wisconsin–Madison and is best known for his MVP performance in the 1963 Rose Bowl, where he broke several Rose Bowl records, some of which still stand. In that game, he orchestrated a legendary fourth quarter comeback attempt against the USC Trojans in the first #1 (USC) versus #2 (Wisconsin) bowl game in college football history.

In August 1963, he was named the starter in the Chicago College All-Star Game (a game which pitted college all-stars selected from the graduating class from the previous season against the NFL champion) over a group of quarterbacks which included 1962 Heisman Trophy winner Terry Baker. The college all-stars defeated the Green Bay Packers 20–17, with a 74-yard touchdown completion to his college teammate, Pat Richter, providing the winning touchdown. Vander Kelen was named the game MVP.[3] The 1963 game would prove to be the last time the college all-stars defeated the NFL champion in this series.
Bud Adams told me the franchise he admired the most was the Kansas City Chiefs. Then he asked for more hookers and blow.

Ah yeah, the Vander Kelen/Richter team, possibly the greatest game in college football history - that Jan. 1, 1963 Rose Bowl. I watched it laying on the sofa with chicken pox and a 103 fever. Badgers down 42-14 early in the fourth quarter. They came roaring back to make it 42-37 and came within a hair of blocking a punt that coulda won it.

I think Vince wasn't too pleased about that game - maybe one of the reasons they stopped playing the "College Allstar Game" a few years later. .

I obviously need to modify my roster, as Ridder is gone. It's a near sure thing that Tyrod Taylor will be QB2. I will also commit to predicting that Sky Moore doesn't make the team and Sturtevant does make it.
