For the second straight day, the Green Bay Packers used the waiver wire to add a new player to the offseason roster. On Wednesday, the Packers claimed wide receiver Brenden Rice, a 2024 seventh-round pick and the son of Hall of Famer Jerry Rice, off waivers from the Las Vegas Raiders.
Rice (6-3, 210) was the 225th overall pick of the Los Angeles Chargers in 2024. The Packers will be his fifth team; Rice previously spent time with the Chargers, Raiders, New England Patriots and Seattle Seahawks, including stints on the practice squad with the Raiders, Patriots and Seahawks. He appeared in three games for the Chargers as a rookie in 2024, playing three snaps on offense and 10 more on special teams.
His dad fumbled.

Tight end Luke Lachey, whom the Green Bay Packers picked up off waivers on Tuesday, had his physical failed by the team on Thursday and is now a free agent. Lachey, a Y tight end, was the type of tight end that the Packers’ room was missing. After the draft, general manager Brian Gutekunst admitted that the team was looking for an inline tight end, but that value didn’t present itself.
Lachey didn’t have a failed physical designation when he was waived by the Houston Texans, who drafted him in the seventh round of the 2025 draft. This is the second tight end for whom the Packers have failed a physical this offseason, after undrafted rookie Eni Falayi failed a physical upon reporting with the team.

Good. I didn't want him taking a roster spot that hopefully to go to Maryland. To paraphrase APB, we don't need no Yokozuma TE. Get a good pass catching TE instead.
What could be more GOOD and NORMAL and AMERICAN than Packer Football?

Odds are against the Oedipal son, Maryland, making the team. There’s a sign outside the tight ends room that reads, “whites only.” That TE room is whiter than a Tony O’Day family reunion.
Joke aside, Packers are gonna need Kentucky Kraft to return to form and stay healthy. Cos, they ain’t got anyone else worth a fuck in that room.
Lachey played the Y receiver position. Which is more of a route running, pass catching position in La Fleur's offense. So he was likely not a Yokozuma. So they are still in a need of a TE that can scoot and catch for depth.
Bud Adams told me the franchise he admired the most was the Kansas City Chiefs. Then he asked for more hookers and blow.
The Green Bay Packers used their final available roster spot to sign former Vanderbilt cornerback Marlon Jones, a move that was first reported by CBS Sports’ Matt Zenitz on Monday. The Packers had an open roster spot following the failed physical of tight end Luke Lachey and are up to a full 91-man offseason roster. Moving forward, any additions will need to come with a corresponding roster move.
Jones began his college career in 2019 with the Eastern Washington Eagles in the FCS, where he played for four seasons before transferring to the FBS in 2024. He missed his first season with the Commadores, as he was battling cancer at the time. According to The Athletic, Jones was diagnosed with stage 3 Hodgkin’s lymphoma on the day before his scheduled move to Nashville.
Returning to the field in 2025, Jones, a former high school track star, was able to make nine tackles in nine games of action. While he didn’t record an interception last year, he did have three interceptions in each of his final three years of his EWU career, including two returned for touchdowns in 2023.
