The extension alone is $27.625 mil per year, just off the top averages of $28 mil per year. But its a a bargain if this years deal is inlcuded as he's signed for 2026 at $5 mil per. Makes the whole contract 5 years and 115 mil total; averages out to a little more than $23 mil per year.Bud Adams told me the franchise he admired the most was the Kansas City Chiefs. Then he asked for more hookers and blow.

No. Who said that? Prior to this, they still had $26 mil available. I'll also add, if anyone thinks the cap isn't REAL, well, that's just foolish. Can it be manipulated? You bet. However, eventually all monies that are paid need to be accounted for at some point. Some teams, like the Dolphins this year, are in a true cap hell because they've decided to just demolish the whole thing and start over. Other teams will continually push out strategic contracts to remain competitive.Originally posted by Anti-Polar Bear View Post

They were AND could have chosen to stay tight. But instead they either cut or let walk a long list of former starters. That's why Mike Tanier and all of CheeseheadTV are having an argument over whether this is a rebuilding year for the Packers. (Tanier is a yes, CheeseheadTV is a no and they have a season long bet on it).Originally posted by Anti-Polar Bear View Post

Accounted for with expiring contracts, revenue increases and even more cooking. Absence of an economic anomaly, cap hell ain’t feasible anymore.I don’t want a battle from beginning to end

Parsons’ Packers contract all but debunked any theory of a present-day cap hell.Originally posted by pbmax View Post

Name one significant former starter in recent times the Packers had to cut ties with due to being in the so-called cap hell. Gary Lightbody, Cletidius Clark and Fucking Center were overpaid based on their recent performances. Doubs and Q-Walker got market rates that the Packers coulda easily matched if they wanted to.I don’t want a battle from beginning to end

C'mon. You changed the criteria in mid-paragraph. Significant starter first, then overpaid. Very few teams cut players who are playing up to their contract.Originally posted by Anti-Polar Bear View Post

They let Gary, Walker, Walker, Doubs and Jenkins go. Gary and Jenkins were not good bets to continue to pay off, though they are not finished. Quay Walker and Doubs were known quantities with limitations who will be harder to replace. Walker the Tackle I think started one year too many and Morgan will step right in. But its never a sure thing.
We will see. Tanier's point is that is a lot of starters snaps to replace and if you had backups that were better, they would likely have started for the team last year.

The Q Walker/Zaire Franklin switch will be interesting. They're replacing a more athletic guy with a guy who I think has better LB instincts.I can't run no more with that lawless crowd

I can't wait to get back to being agonized over a TE getting open on man coverage again.Originally posted by Joemailman View PostThe Q Walker/Zaire Franklin switch will be interesting. The pass defense stats for the 2 players were quite similar, and not good. Franklin is 4 inches shorter than Walker, so tall TE's could be a problem. Gannon likes to play a lot of dime, so maybe they can minimize his coverage responsibilities.Originally posted by pbmax View Post

Yeah, I am not even sure he'll be in man coverage, I just know the Colts had trouble with him and TEs. Quay was a peeker and often reacted to head fakes and opened spacing in the zone. So its not going to be a tremendous difference in results beyond possible scheme change.Originally posted by Joemailman View Post

Ain't that the truth. What I wouldn't give to have drafted Payton Wilson instead of Hopper or whatever his useless name is.Originally posted by pbmax View Post

I'm a little concerned they gave Franklin the green dot, which would suggest he'll be out there more than I'd like.
He was miscast in Indy's D last year and good before that. As an early downs guy who can play the run etc. I'm fine with him. He's not a coverage LB. Quay had the physical gifts but not the instincts. Gannon is going to have to use Franklin better than Amaruno did last year, but I'm not sure you want him in coverage all the time. I'd have given the green dot to McKinney.
Payton Wilson has managed to stay healthy, which is saying something for an overaged player with surgeries on both shoulders and a knee. In hindsight he sure looks a lot better than Hopper, who everyone thought was a reach. I'd have been ok with Hopper in R5, R3 is too rich.
