But thats just it. He wasn't a "football player". He was the product of an elite college system. And I didn't even realize his ras was THAT bad. There is a diff between taking a player with a 8.1 RAS over an athlete with a 9.5 RAS. Taking a guy with a 5.37 at a skill position is insanity.

Many of these gadget guys or H backs seem like picks made to reward the Offensive staff with their preferred type.

The problem with this explanation is that it doesn't explain Musgrave's stalled development. He was the best TE they had and was open a lot as a rookie (also fell down in the open field a lot too) in his first season until he had that lacerated kidney.

Through his first 10 games, Musgrave was on pace for a 60-reception season, 600+ yards. It would have been an excellent rookie season. It's frustrating that they have not gotten more out of him the past two seasons.

Kraft wasn't even a blip on the radar, 3 receptions for 11 yards before the game Musgrave was injured in. Had Musgrave not been injured, how might Kraft's career trajectory been different?

Honestly, you can take about any TE and do that. It was designed to get him some confidence and build off of it, but he never did. Once Musgrave proved that he wasn't really capable of coming off that route and punishing a defense for shutting it down he had nothing. He needed to start that route and turn it up the seem for 20+ when the D collapsed on it.....he couldn't and that was the end of his effectiveness.

However you want to define it. You do describe it better than I did, but effectively he schemed him to catch it within a few yards of the LoS, run another 5 and then fall down.....er get tackled. Lets call it a misdirection screen type thingy.

I agree. That and the fact he doesn't contribute to special teams. If he's not a consistent downfield threat, what is his value?

Dennis-Sutton is pretty much a lock, given his draft position. When is the last time the Packers cut a 4th rounder before his first season?
