Talk of cutting Jacobs is ridiculous. The prospect of him getting suspended bu the league for a few games, though, isn't so far-fetched. Hopefully it won't happen.

Not a peep out of any body about Jacobs in camp. How he looks. How he's doing, mentally.

I don't see them cutting Jacobs yet - how can you, when your top backups are a guy who hasn't been on the field for more than a few snaps in his two years in the league, and a guy who is a great third-down blocker but quite pedestrian as a running back?

I don't know if anybody has a reasonably talented spare backup tight-end they'd be willing to trade, but teams are generally looking for defensive linemen, and Brooks is on the last year of his rookie deal, so he'd be economical for a team who wanted a one-year rental or look-see.

He only came back from the hamstring last week and was doing individual work. Not much to comment on yet.

Jacobs has a lot of mileage on those wheels. If he plays, it's more than likely his last year. I'd hesitate to hook the cart to Lloyd though. I think Lloyd's injuries have muddied the Packers RB plans the last few years. Hopefully the reworked offense keeps the ball in Loves hands more often.

Roster updates: Packers acquired two new TEs and a new RB.

Not sure #18 has any gas left in the tank and have no clue who the other guy is, but at least the TE room is no longer whiter than a Tony O’Day family reunion.

The new RB looks like a poor man’s Ryan Grant. Probably ain’t a good idea to have him return kicks.

The new TE from the Rams is huge. Dwarfs even Kraft. Jonnu is a stetch TE like Musgrave but hopefully healthier.

On the Vikings Week Discussion thread, I posted a really negative article from ACME about how much Bako-Bewele's availability or lack thereof will impact the Vikings' game - and in the longer term, how his health (or lack thereof) could affect the season. What the article boiled down to is that Anthony Belton was horrible at pass blocking last year at both guard and tackle, and this preseason he was horrible at pass blocking at right tackle - even though he often played against the other team's second string. In other words, the team is fucked if Bako-Bewele can't stay healthy and play this year.

Which leads me to wonder why the team chose to keep both Donovan Jennings and Travis Glover instead of cutting one of them in order to keep Darrien Kinnard. The guy was not the greatest tackle on the planet, but he was at least minimally serviceable at right tackle, which sounds light years better than the way Belton's play has been described. Minimally serviceable versus tire fire.

So I know they don't cut second-year second-round picks, but wouldn't you keep Kinnard and expose maybe Jennings to the waiver wire? I mean, if a guard goes down, you've got Glover and Burton.

I don't get it. Did Kinnard piss someone off? Was he really so awful at right tackle this training camp that they thought rolling with Belton was better?

For whatever reason, Kinnard had a very bad summer. Probably started training camp as one of their top 7 OL, but dropped further than anyone. The fact that they dropped Kinnard knowing ZBB's status was questionable means they either had lost all confidence in him, or they have confidence in one of the backups.

Kinnard was both hurt and got passed up on the depth chart during camp. He's had plenty of chances to stick at tackle and probably should be tried at guard-only at this point in his career. I think he got picked up by TEN or NYG or something. Belton still has developmental upside, if they don't screw around with him like they did Morgan. He also should be a guard, but they don't really have a great answer at backup tackle -- John Williams might be the answer but he's not quite ready yet. So they are in a tough spot.

I do think they are moving back to more outside zone running - putting Monk/Burton in the lineup would suggest that, as would rolling out with Lloyd and Johnson as your RBs. They went with guys like Banks, Glover, and Belton because they wanted to get bigger and "more physical" especially after the Philly playoff loss. I think that's a nice philosophy, but I have doubts it fits GB's roster.

Generally speaking, I feel like Gute drafts pretty decent talent but the coaches aren't putting that talent to its best use, either because of scheme changes (yes, I know you have to evolve each season) or coaching decisions. I'm not convinced MLF and Co. consistently adjust the scheme to players, I think they try to force square pegs like Musgrave into round holes like trying to be a Y TE (for example).

I see they moved his court date way up. Even assuming he gets suspended, he will be back fairly soon - as opposed to being on that exempt list - a defacto suspension - until November or so.

Picking up Caleb Johnson seems to be a very good move. I have no confidence in Chris Brooks, and apparently the team doesn't have much confidence in Pierre Strong.

The whole O Line mess is kinda irrelevant IMO, as the team will be fine with pretty much whoever they put out there due to the greatness of Love and the receivers as well as what should be an excellent defense.

Tex, I don’t think they’ll cut Jacobs either, though the team’s supposed shift back to an outside zone running scheme suggests that this is his last season with the team. IF we see them running more and more stretch zone plays while Jacobs is out, can you chage that up at the drop of a hat for Jacobs when he comes back?

I think seeing how The Flower designs the run blocking schemes in the first five or so weeks (and how successful it is) will tell us a lot about Jacobs’s future with the team.

Tex you ignorant slut. Love is great against the blitz, but he us not great under pressure, especially if it comes from just 4 rushers. Needing to keep a TE in to block all the time will give a big advantage to the defense. They can manage if the line is just ok, but not if it's bad.
