This is just dragging on now. The NFL is a bit of a joke here. If Jacobs was JAG they'd have announced already that he's been permanently suspended from the league. If he was a superstar, the face of the NFL, they'd announce that he pled, he's done or is doing his time/commitments, and he'd be back on the field in two weeks from now, tops. The National Hypocrisy League.

I think they don't want another Ray Rice situation. They don't want to run the risk of reinstating Jacobs and then have the video come out and be really bad. I just wonder how much longer before they can stretch this out before Jacobs either files a grievance or a lawsuit.

We need to pay TMZ to pay someone in Hobart to release the video.

I think Jacobs and the league understand what is going to happen (in my opinion). He is going to sit exempt for either 6 or 8 weeks. Then they are going to announce time served and reinstate him. If they drag it past that point with basically no evidence (sorry, but if you don't have the tape you ain't got shit) he has a serious grievance and potential lawsuit. Just my 2 cents. The wildcard is that Goodell had done whatever the fuck he wants with no consistency or logic for most of his tenure.

Edit: I almost forgot. This is another Gutes failing as it was pretty clear Jacobs was going to miss significant time and we did nothing about it. Now its a giant distraction hanging over the team. Jacobs should have been cut the second it happened. He is getting old enough and we put some serious miles on him last couple of years. Its a business and the right call was to move on and remove the distraction.

This is where the Mike Tanier prediction of replacing so many starters with backups starts to come to fruition.

He started off with a critique of the Packers offseason saying if you lose enough snap counts of the teams starters you will not be able to replace them effectively. If they were bad enough en masse to let go, then their backups or acquired replacements would have been starting already.*

Which runs against Ted-ism, where the youngsters get trusted and only the best get second contracts. Except when:

You lose both guards (one to injury) and both tackles (one to injury) and your starting RB (to suspension). The plan here was to survive but Banks and ZBB's injuries torpedoed the O line plan. Gute's knew Banks getting hurt was a risk and I think he was rehabbing, right? And in the summer he knew Jacobs was in trouble.

If Gutes does for the O line what he did for the D line, this season looks a lot different. Basically he could have done in March through August what he did in late August/Sept and not run the risk of getting Love hurt.

            * I think this mainly happened for one reason: if the big contracts you keep are Love, Gary and say Quay Walker, you probably can ride with a couple of vets for another one or two years. If the contracts you keep are Love and Parsons, you need to get young and cheap in a hurry. I think the Parson's deal accelerated some decisions by a year.

Yeah yeah yeah, the cap again, and the O Line again too. Ya'll have your opinions on these things, but it just ain't that way.

I suspect there's a bit of a tug of war among Packer insiders, some thinking like I think, O Line ain't a very high priority, and others who think like ya'all, wanting to go out and throw some money at the situation ........ hence, the Banks debacle, the ZBB mess, etc. BTW, on that subject, I'll remind ya'all, ZBB was a very good Guard, drafted in the mid round range. I woulda have liked to see him stay there (ditto that maybe for Jenkins). The Packers used to get a helluva lot of mileage out of inside runs and very little off tackle where the sacred cow grazed. So what do they do? Move the successful Guard(s) to Tackle where he flounders and ultimately gets hurt. I have for a long time downgraded the importance of O Line in general, but I also have stated that I value Guard as a higher priority position than Tackle. Pass rush-wise, they can get to the QB quicker while a mobile QB can usually deal with an outside rush (Rodgers did for over a decade, and Love too). And Guard also is the place where the Packers have success with inside running.

Regarding the cap,, pretty much everything can be handled. Massive waste from poor signings and the bad luck of injuries to big investment guys is a problem, but the Packers have always dealt with it, and I'm confident they will continue. De-prioritizing the O Lineis a big part of that. RB also is a position where you can do pretty well without elite talent. I'm kinda 50/50 about the big investment in Jacobs. It has worked to a great extent before the incident. And it would be bonehead stupid to pull the plug on him because of the incident. On the other hand, who's to say we wouldn't have done about as good with lesser talent - what we have been getting by with pretty well so far this season?

All in all, I'd say Gutkunst has done a pretty good job of walking the fine line between "ted-ism" and throwing money where it shouldn't be thrown.

For those who are so critical of him, look around at the teams who STUPIDLY tear down to rebuild. Would you seriously prefer that kind of shit?

ZBB has played two games of Guard in his NFL career. It was an emergency situation.

If Love gets hurt you will understand exactly why teams pay O lineman good money. And the way things were going, it was a question of when he would get hurt, not if.

Yeah yeah yeah, same ol' shit. A mobile QB greatly negates the need for high price or high drafted O Linemen. That plus way too often, throwing money or high draft picks doesn't result in getting great O LInemen anyway, just resulting in waste - Banks, ZBB, the sacred cow, etc.

We'll see a great example of doing things ya'all's way Sunday. The Cowboys have gone all in for O line, and it's as useless there as the few attempts at that by the Packers.

Tex, no one that I am aware of is asking for more money or more #1 picks to be spent on the O line. What they want are better players, however acquired.

I don't think anyone begrudges the packers finding Tomlinson for a song off the PS and Glover off the bench for now as its lead to an improvement.

Most of the errors here aren't talent. They were inexperience (had to be expected) and injury (harder to predict except in case of Banks).

                            • Back on topic:

According to the collective bargaining agreement between the NFL and NFLPA, a standard suspension for a domestic violence case is six games. However, suspensions can be longer depending on the severity of the case.

If Jacobs were to be suspended, any games he missed while on the commissioner’s exempt list would count toward the suspension. He’ll be at six games after the Packers face off against the Cowboys this Sunday night.

If the NFL doesn't have the tape they need to remove him from the exempt list if they wish to continue this "investigation". Otherwise they are effectively punishing him more severely than allowed because maybe they might find something bad. But when it comes to the small market community owned Packers the NFL has never been favorable.

I'll add this. To my knowledge the injuries sustained by the victim weren't egregious to my knowledge. No fractured bones, no concussion, no cuts or large egregious bruises. So the idea that the tape is going to show something like the Ray Rice haymaker isn't founded in any logic.

                              • Unless it gets leaked, that video will never see daylight. Both Jacobs and the woman do not want it out there. Everytime there is a request for the tape both sides will block it. Since there are no other parties that would have any legal standing to gain access to it, it is buried.
