R.I.P. - Dick Himes

Dick Himes, one of decent players on the Packers in the 1970s. Was Forrest Gregg's backup for two years, then started at right tackle for most of the '70s.

I always assumed that he would be in Canton some day after he retired ....... because he was born and raised there; probably had family to visit.

Decent, reliable player.

By that time period I was an avid Packers fan, yet I don't recall that name. Maybe I wasn't into the granular look at the complete roster. But he toiled for some forgettable Packer teams, so God bless him. There was just that blip of the Scott Hunter playoff year, when somehow the Packers massaged the offense enough to work around his lack of an arm, and had a good defense. Even so, they got booted in the first playoff game that year - was that '71 or '72? I think the score was like 16 - 7 or something.

Himes was one of the unknowns opening holes for John Brockington and MacArthur Lane when they were the talk of the team. Missed only a couple games after taking over for Gregg partway through the 1970 season, his 3rd with the Packers. Started from '70 through '77.
