I can't run no more
With that lawless crowd
While the killers in high places
Say their prayers out loud
But they've summoned, they've summoned up
A thundercloud
They're going to hear from me - Leonard Cohen
Smith is a whole lot better than Peprah, and a fiery player. We definitely improved with this move.
Only if he ends up playing a lot from scrimmage, i.e. starts. If he ends up as a backup/ST guy, it might be a performance decline. Supposedly, Peprah is good on ST, and tries to contribute on ST. Some stories said this guy paved his way out of Pittsburgh with an indifferent attitude and poor effort toward ST when he wasn't a starter.
He could start. From what I understand, the free safety in this defense is more of a roamer. I think being the roamer deep has less responsibility because they don't have as urgent of a run responsibility and playing deep, things tend to take more time to unfold.
The SS is closer to the line. The play will get to him quicker so he'll have to diagnose quicker. He'll have more run responsibilities on top of the pass. I think it would require a player who really knows what he's doing. Maybe this guy isn't the long term answer, but he should have a good head start over Bigby at the position just because he should know it much better going in.
He doesn't sound like a smart football player. My initial thought is that he won't be a long term answer, but could help short term and could help with ST's.
Sure would be cool to sign something that can imitate a starter
Igor anyone ?????????/
Wonder if we'll even bring the dude in
TERD Buckley over Troy Vincent, Robert Ferguson over Chris Chambers, Kevn King instead of TJ Watt, and now, RICH GANNON, over JIMMY JIMMY JIMMY LEONARD. Thank you FLOWER

He signed with the Cowboys. That would be tampering.
Who signed with the Cowboys ?

We don't need starters anyways; we're just fine there.
Our DL is just fine; in fact we're outstanding
With Carl Malone and Justine Harrell I'm infinitely confident
BRING BACK COLIN COLE; crap did I say that
He's looking alright now

It may be gossip, but how else do you explain him getting little interest? I didn't realize he was benched for 4 games last year. And he's the guy we had to have. Him or Canty. Canty isn't a bad player, but people make him out to be a stud or something. I'm glad we didn't pay the price for Canty. I'd rather save it for Jennings, Kampman, Collins, etc.

I'm not worried about the DE's. Jenkins, Jolly and Malone look like good fits. Harrell has an outside chance of coming back. There is the draft. Kamp is going to play some end in sub packages. I'd love to add more, but I don't think it's the biggest worry right now.
NT is a big concern IMO. Pickett is OK if he has a guy at least as good as him to rotate with, but all we have is Pickett and as far as I can tell, it's not enough. Our defense will not be better than average until we get that fixed.
After the Grey Beards and Tramon, I can't stand our corners.
After Collins, I'm really unsure of our safeties.
After Kampman and Hawk, I'm unsure of our LB's
The defense obviously needs help, but DE's seem to be the least of our worries and there isn't much out there to help the other spots. We have to count on development from within, the draft and FA classes of the future because there isn't much out there for us right now.

Sounds like a cool justification, but we would have been fine paying Canty, Jennings, Kampman, and Collins. I never thought Igor was the must have. I wish; I can't help myself but I fully expect to be disappointed by TTT in free agency.

For what Canty got, I'm okay with seeing what we get in the draft or getting a more reasonably priced Holliday, Douglas, Carter, Weaver, etc.
