    Tucker Kraft Highest Paid Tight End

    The Green Bay Packers and tight end Tucker Kraft are finalizing a four-year, $92 million contract extension, according to multiple reports.

    The deal, which includes a $26.5 million signing bonus, will average $19.66M over the first 3 new years of the deal and will make Kraft the highest-paid tight end in the NFL.

    So he got highest paid but didn't break $20 AAV. Compromise on both sides.
    Bud Adams told me the franchise he admired the most was the Kansas City Chiefs. Then he asked for more hookers and blow.

      Called it. Look, I was probably the biggest Kraft fan when we picked him and even now, but I just hate the trend. He has never had a 1k season and he isn't in the same league as McBride. There are probably 5 pass catching TEs better than Kraft. He is definitely a plus blocker, but not Kittles plus. While players say "its a business" when they hold out, the Packers never treat contracts like a business. We overpay constantly. Kraft had no leverage other than a holdout. He was under contract and the tag basically locked him in for 2 years. When will we actually make players prove it for like....you know, a full season before we make them the highest player in the league? It is a business. There is a cap. If we could have shaved 1.5M off his deal annually and done the same with Love it would have added up to keeping a midlevel player. Sometimes it pays off. Sometimes you get Rashaan Gary.

      C'est la vie. I knew it was coming. He is a baller so I think it will work out. But I don't think he will be TE1 in the NFL to be honest.

        He won't be #1 in fantasy stats. But he has a chance to be the #1 overall Tight End.

          You weren't getting a top 5 TE for less than top of market money. There isn't a chart for this that gives you a value based on descending number of catches. If he's a top tier starter he's getting top tier money. The only thing that stopped this setting a record (the low end of his deal, without bonuses, puts him just under Kittle) was his ACL injury.

            I think a TE needs to be able to block. He could be the best combo TE. But McBride is a decent blocker and elite receiver. Even Bowers is a good blocker in space. Kittles is the gold standard when healthy. Pitts is used poorly and is a below average blocker and the Falcons keep asking him to do it. But he should be in McBrides class as a receiver. I hated Jimmy Graham because he was inept blocking, but he ran a 4.4 and was 6'7". Kraft is really good. He might end up being the best TE in football. But coming off injury and never having looked like "the best" so far I don't understand the desperate desire to pay him immediate top salary....same as Love who was paid as top 3?? But is more like QB10

              Kraft at his best would be second after a healthy Kittle at his best. But ascending to Kittles descending.

              The contract is just right and since TEs are underpaid, it’s a good contract as it relates to winning football games.

                I don't know the intricacies of it all, but it appeared to me that when Kraft was on the field, the offense was simply far, far better. He can block, he can get YAC, he gets open. You wait until after the season and unless he's hurt again, the price skyrockets. Seems a reasonable deal. I think the Bako-Bewele extension was also good, and it was just crap luck that he got hurt right after that.

                It's not like they're handing these contracts out to old dudes. These are second contracts. Probably the Rashan Gary contract was a mistake, but they did recoup a fourth round pick for him.

                  Let me ask it this way. If Kraft played really good and we extended tagged and signed an extension next year would it be much different than the deal he just signed? But if he got hurt again or simply didn't play like the absolute best TE in football would it have been for less? I just think waiting made more sense. You can still make him the top paid guy next year. I get that someone might sign a deal between now and then that makes "top paid" cost a tad more, but the risk/reward of waiting definitely favored the team if you are giving him "top paid" right now.

                    Kraft's value goes beyond his numbers. Like you said, the offense is better with him playing. As a WHOLE. Kraft is a game-changer, his attitude and demeanor affect the outcomes of games, IMO.
