I mostly agree with you, Joe; I will only say in Belton's (tepid) defense that the coaching staff started him at tackle last year, suddenly moved him to right guard, then moved him back to right tackle toward the end of training camp this year. The coaching staff has done the kid no favors; nonetheless, he still stinks and perhaps he would even if Larry Beightol was coaching him.

To top it off, the offensive line was worse by the fourth quarter than they were early on, and they were bad early on. So instead of making adjustments to fix the issue, LeFleur either made no adjustments or made adjustments that made it worse.

As I said (over and over ad nauseum) on the game day thread, the offensive line development has not been great the last couple years. I don't think Butkus is getting the job done; however, I also blame Stenavich and above all, Matt LeFleur. They KNOW what Flores does, had two weeks to get ready, knew Banks might not play, and yet it would be insulting to dumpster fires to call the offensive line performance a dumpster fire.

What's disconcerting to me is that even though the Packers were hitting big plays during the first 3 quarters, the Vikings just kept blitzing. They seemed to feel if they kept the pressure on, the Packers would eventually fold. Which they did.

I also wonder if the Packers OL was simply unable to communicate with the crowd noise. Maybe having 2 Guards starting their 1st NFL game in that atmosphere was just too much.

In a span of 5 weeks in 2025, Gute signed Aaron Banks to a big contract and drafted Anthony Belton in the 2nd round. Those 2 (so far) misses are a big part of what we saw yesterday.

And no Burton in the lineup.

I will say this as a positive. Everyone noticed the drop off when Cisse got cramps and Valentine came in. CV's been better than anyone had a right to expect but man he doessn't seem to be a starter anymore.

My gripe with Belton is that he looks identical to the rookie I saw last year. He took the off season to carb load on ho hos and ding dongs. He ignored any semblance of working on the playbook or learning either position.

An interesting chart showing the extent of the Packers' OL woes. Despite Love having the second lowest time-to-throw in Week 1, Green Bay's pressure rate over expectation against is comfortably the worst.

4 out of the 5 worst are all o-lineman. Tells you all you need to know. Butt-kiss needs to be fired into the sun, Stenavich needs to be moved back down to where he belongs, and MLF needs to hire a REAL OC.

Stenavich needs to follow Butkus. Fire both. All this talk about all the gems we find late. In about a dozen swings at OL we found 3 that are adequate. Just look at Gutes record. Its awful. I can't be sure if its development, philosophy or drafting. Its bad though. Since I only recently liked a couple picks I'm going with drafting, but if Morgan and Burton fail then I'm leaning towards coaching or both. I didn't hate the Monk pick as a more pure inside guy, but he has had enough time and isn't up to snuff either. Rhyan was just an awful pick and we paid him.

At least 2 of these look like the line was fooled by an overload and ended up with 3 blockers on 2 or 1 and an open gap. We've seen this before and it took ZBB and Runyan to solve it last time of memory serves (it may not, I don't remember the pairs that were failing - maybe Billy Turner when he was a Guard (he was a better - not great - tackle BTW).

Damn you, bretsky! Let’s hope for the best. It was an unusually hostile environment to start the season. Egregious penalties lead to the huge momentum swing that really made the OLs job hard. Mike Wahle said Zach BB was constantly getting off the ball late probably because he didn’t have the practice with the cadence. There are some young guys who will grow as the season progresses as well as there will be more favorable environments.

I am not worried about Morgan. Yet. There is a reason Zeitler is on the street. They already signed a vet guard to the PS.

Its obvious guard continue to be a problem and while we have spent a lot of time wondering why Jennings over Burton, there is also the fact that Monk blocked a lot of air Sunday.

Which brings up another point. Problems with protection calls are a problem. But they are only one problem. Play level and execution can be different from protection and separating out the two is tough with one game.

Morgan will be ok. ZBB will be ok. Rhyan will be meh. It's the guards that worry me.
I'm not sure Belton is a big upgrade, but I do think they need to start getting Burton in there. Monk and Jennings were bad.

Bad technique. Bad communication. Bad everything. The more you watch it the madder you get.
They had 120+ days to prep for this game and they couldn't figure out blitz protections. If they don't sort that out very quick Tyrod Taylor is going to be the starter, and that's bad news.
