Packers Host Kevin Zeitler On Free Agent Visit

Longtime NFL starting right guard Kevin Zeitler was in Green Bay for a free-agent visit. Unlike Becton, who worked out for the Packes before signing, Zeitler arrived to talk coaches and team staff.

Mosqueda thought they best short term plan was to move back to Belton at RG and use Glover or Williams at RT. Could also sign Kinnard back for RT. Belton struggled with zone runs but would represent a return back to last year's just below average guard play. However, their moves suggest keeping the Tackles where they are.

I have a different guess. Rhyan is capital L lost at times on run blocking. Often flat out picking the wrong target in zone runs. They could move to Jennings/Tomlinson at LG, Zeitler/Becton at RG and Burton to center.

However, if they abandon the Jacobs-less plan to run zone with Lloyd, Brooks and new Iowa guy, then Rhyan isn't quite the dead weight in the run game.

Everyone seems to agree though that this is a find Guards operation and the Tackles are staying. Rhyan will continue to be a plus pass blocker and minus run blocker. Anyone's guess about making good calls and adjustments.

Yesterday, Mekhi Becton was gonna wear 70. Today, he switched to 74. Kevin Zeitler wore *70* at Wisconsin & the Titans, Ravens, Giants & Browns.

More offensive line help; Veteran guard Kevin Zeitler, who has played 14 NFL seasons, is signing a one-year deal with the Green Bay Packers, per sources. This week, the Packers now have added veteran offensive linemen Zeitler, Laken Tomlinson and Mekhi Becton.

Becton played Tackle early in his career. He was moved to Guard by Eagles. He might battle with Belton at RT.

UPDATE: Zeitler’s contract is for a surprisingly low amount of money, given rumors that had put him at between $6-8 million. According to Ian Rapoport, the deal is only a one-year, $4.05 million contract with incentives that could take it to a maximum of $5 million.

Been drinking in door county for a week, so I have missed a lot. I didn't miss the game though and now my head hurts.

All this just points to failures at every level. I still think Stenavich is about the dumbest coach in the league. I have to pin coaching and lack of coordination between coaches and management to be honest because we have some talented guys. They are green, but coaching is supposed to make that tolerable. And honestly some guys simply shouldn't have been rostered. Banks was awful for the money, Jennings never showed me a damn thing and Rhyan was pretty shoddy from the start so naturally we paid him. Belton has potential, but do you trust this staff to maximize it?

Morgan, Banks, Burton, Zeitler, Williams is the best option right now. Most of the rest have major question marks. That is what I would go with, but the second I thought any of the young guys could even equal Banks I'd have him in there. There will still be issues as they haven't played as a unit yet and it appears our coaching staff absolutely blows at building OL cohesiveness.

These signings are good, but who can play this week. Maybe Tomlinson - he's at least been through a Training Camp and was on a Practice Squad. The others might take a couple weeks to get up to speed.

Each one of these players signed are better than the shit they are putting on the field. Are they world beaters? No, of course not, that's why they're not on anyone's roster. But the bar is so low, these players signed are no way under it. Monk is trash and should never see the field for the Packers again. Burton just isn't NFL ready yet. I don't know what Belton is, is he a guard or a tackle - right now he stinks at both. Jennings - you know you're in trouble if he has to come in.

What these new players all have in common is experience. It's one thing to get beat but what we've witnessed so far this year with blown assignments is just unacceptable.

As Meerdink wrote on ACME, even if you're trying not to overreact to the three guard signings in two weeks, this is just panic mode.

Hardly the kind of stuff Super Bowl seasons are made of. Or even winning seasons. Trying to remake your offensive line (and not solely due to injury) in-season stinks of bad coaching and bad GM-ing.

Tex said something in another thread that the problem is the defense, not the offensive line, because of course for Tex, the offensive line is irrelevant.

In defense of Tex, it’s easier to upgrade to an average OL than, say, DL, in-season.

Cletidus Clark making a play every blue moon - well fuck you; ain’t an upgrade on the streets of Baltimore in-season. Jennings stinking worse than donkey shit - plenty of Yokozunas on the streets of Baltimore with less stinky shit.

Love doesn’t need the gritty, gutty, godly all-white OL of Bak/Lang/Sitton/Linsley/Bulaga to make plays. Just an average line. If the new graybeards Yokozunas could somehow just be average, maybe Love could be “him” again. (For you old timers, to say a male athlete is “him” denotes said player being a hotshot.)
