Which Guards will Remain on the Roster?

After signing 3 vet guards during panic week, the Packers have guards galore. What roster moves will be made, who will stay on P.S., who will be released, etc.?

Is there room for more than 4 on the 53?

Is Banks headed to IR?

What about backup tackles and center?

Will they do more than just jettison Monk and Jennings?

Wasn't Monk originally thought to be a center?

I would think Jennings would be the most likely to be cut. Becton is on the PS, and could be activated 3 times before he has to be added to the 53. I think a lot depends on whether Banks is going to IR. The unofficial depth chart shows Burton as the backup Center.

I think a lot depends on what they want to do with their running game. If they are content to run power, counters and duo (which was NOT the offseason plan in camp after Jacobs was arrested) then Rhyan will work. If they want to get back to zone, they need to think about replacing Rhyan at center.

Monk played RT, RG and Center in college. Most games later in his career at RG and Center. RT was only one early year I think. Burton was a center full time in college only his senior year, before that he played more at LG.

There are too many mis-matched parts here to predict how it shakes out. But as bad as the pass game and protection has been, the run game is worse. The Iowa back they signed is a zone guy.

One monkey wrench is that Tomlinson is guaranteed three weeks on the roster by being signed from another team's practice squad.

Becton will be on the PS getting into game shape for as long as they can get away with it.

In the long range, are Williams and Glover safe as backup tackles? Will Becton eventually make the 53 as a backup at both G and T?

Given the Packers moves and history of this brain trust, I'd predict the Guards get replaced if the new ones get up to speed. The run game is whatever works for Rhyan for now but start getting someone else reps at center during games. But as I type that, the thought of switching centers on purpose makes me shudder for Love. I'm not sure even these guys are that cold blooded.

So my bet is the play calling adjusts to less zone running and Rhyan stays. The good part of that is it matches Jacobs strength when/if he comes back.

Been a number of years for Becton since he started at Tackle and he was not good. I don't think he moves back. Williams and Glover are probably on the roster for now as there aren't really good alternatives that don't raise more questions than answers at the position.

Zeitler and Tomlinson are strictly Guards. Zeitler if healthy will be starting. Tomlinson might be only because he's already on the 53. Becton is more injury reclamation project at this time.

Anyone's guess who is starting at Guard beside Zeitler if healthy.

Add Glover to my list of guys who should have never been rostered. When you got a guy with a flaw you can work on it. I'm not sure what they ever saw in him or Jennings as they don't do anything particularly well and have flaws galore.

Its probably a sign of impending doom that Jennings is the pick to get released yet he is getting first team practice reps today at RG.

Possibly. But other than Zeitler, Tomlinson and Becton cost next to nothing.

If Banks gets healthy (and its at least possibe they have all but given up on this) I could also see him getting the start ahead of Tomlinson. Tomlinson is a cheap stop gap.
