Hey everyone, I just got home. Darn Pacific time means you miss half of the second day. I see on Packers.com we got TJ Lang and Quinn Johnson, anyone got any opinions on these guys?

Jasper Brinkly
Overall Football Traits
Production 2 2004-'05: Brinkley attends Georgia Military College. 2006: Brinkley transfers to South Carolina. He starts all 13 games accumulating 107 total tackles including 14.5 tackles-for loss and five sacks. 2007: Brinkley plays in the first four games and sustains a season-ending knee injury in the fourth game. (LSU) The NCAA grants him a medical red-shirt. 2008: Brinkley starts all 13 games accumulating 65 tackles including five tackles-for-loss and 2.5 sacks. He intercepts one pass and forces two fumbles. Brinkley earns second-team All-SEC honors in 2008.
Height-Weight-Speed 3 Good height and bulk but lacks ideal top-end speed for a three-down linebacker.
Durability 4 2007: Misses final eight games of season and undergoes knee surgery.
Character 3 Not a take-charge type of leader but a hard worker that bounced back from 2007 knee injury and done a good job of keeping weight down over the past year.
Inside Linebacker specific Traits
Instincts/Recognition 4 Appears to make sound pre-snap reads but lacks ideal instincts and takes too many false steps. Gets caught peeking into the backfield too much and frequently gets caught out position when offense runs misdirection. (see first quarter of the 2008 Vanderbilt game) Scouts have concerns about ability to pick up complex defensive schemes in the NFL.
Pursuit/Point of Attack 2 Adequate closing burst and a powerful hitter. Big and strong enough to take on blockers in the phone booth. Plays with an edge, uses powerful punch to knock offensive linemen off balance and rarely loses one-on-one battle when stays low but plays too high at times. Must learn to protect lower body with hands. Lacks ideal range and not a sideline-to-sideline run defender.
Tackling 3 Excellent tackler in close quarters but needs to do better job of breaking down in space. Overextends at times and lacks the body control to recover in time to make play when does.
Pass Coverage 4 Shows adequate awareness in zone coverage but lacks range. Stiff hips and not quick or fluid enough to match up with most NFL backs in man coverage. Marginal ball skills and not a playmaker in coverage.
Pass Rusher 2 Doesn't show a variety of pass rush moves but shows better closing speed than timed speed suggests and can run over blockers in the backfield. Relentless and makes some plays with second effort.

I'm really hoping Barbre becomes a player at RT. He's extremely athletic and powerful. He's had a couple years to learn the playbook (a bit of a dummy) and work on his technique. If the light comes on for him this year, we're looking in really good shape on the OL next year and going forward (as long as we resign Spitz and Colledge before UFA).Formerly known as JustinHarrell.

Good gamble on Lang; he might be a Guard and then Colledge shifts to T

You make me want to puke. I think you've said this after every Vikings pick in the 4-5 years I've known you.Originally posted by Bretskygood pick thereOriginally posted by RastakVikings take Jasper Brinkley.

The pattern today has been toughness. This fullback sounds like a bruiser.
Everything I read about Lang, he's going to be about a 330 lb guy. He's 315, and they say he's going to fill out into a bruiser.
Matthews is a tenacious dude. Can't wait to see him play.
Raji is a fuckin' brute. My favorite Packer pick ever.Formerly known as JustinHarrell.

I'm guessing it's better to lie and disparage the pick?

It's tradeup Sheep showing his ugly face!
(i can only assume your 'trade-up" comment was sarcasm)
I think that's fairly obvious.
You do realize there is also a risk/reward at every round?

I just read Lang's bio on nfldraftcountdown.com and he looks like a really good pick. Classic TT produced in college type pick. I'm liking that one so far on initial impressions.Originally posted by BretskyOriginally posted by channthemanHey everyone, I just got home. Darn Pacific time means you miss half of the second day. Johnson was the top rated FB in the draft too according to that same website. They say he doesn't run the ball well but I don't think that will ever be a problem. I like Korey Hall on our team but Kuhn hasn't impressed me as much. They also say Johnson is a team player; sounds likes a Packer person.
Maybe we go with Hall and Johnson at FB this year. I'm am really excited with this years draft so far. Our first 2 picks look to help on defense immediately and these guys look like some great guys who produced in college. Thanks Bretsky.
