Our WR corps does not need upgrading, and once Jennings gets his extension we won't have any money available to upgrade our WR's anyway. Figure Driver's gonna be here at least 2 more years (maybe longer, could be as many as 5) @ approx. 7 million per. Jennings will be very close to that salary as well. Marshall's gonna want a bigger paycheck too, and we won't be able to give it to him.

Besides, I really disagree that Marshall is the second most talented WR in the game. He might only be the second most talented WR on our roster should we sign him. Not to mention that Driver would be incredibly put off by it, likely seeing the move as the next step twoard his own release. It could get ugly. No need.
TT disagrees with you on many of your points because he went after Moss with basically the same WRs already in place (minus Jordy, but with a slightly younger Driver). So he doesn't see a problem with trying to upgrade our WR corps and he didn't seem to worry about Driver's feelings.
Check your timetable. The Moss negotiations happened before we had James Jones or Greg Jennings either. The pick we had offered to Oakland for Moss was a pick in the draft in which we drafted Jennings. The only two WR's currently on our roster that were here when those negotiations were taking place are Donald Driver and Ruvell Martin. The other guys here at the time were Taco Wallace, Robert Ferguson, Carlyle Holiday, etc.

And you can say minus Jennings. He was draafted the day Moss was ultimatley traded. There is a big differnce between Jennings now and Jennings then.

geesh.. i cannot possibly see a reason why Favre would be so upset for not going after Moss harder than what they did....

Being upset for not getting Moss? fine. Acting like a 4 year old and throwing a temper tantrum about it? Not fine. Unprofessional in fact.

Gee, I cannot possibly see a reason why that would matter anyway. Favre being upset does not mean the GM has to give him what he wants. That's beside the point. We were talking about Thompson, not Favre.

Is our WR corps right now, today, better or worse than it was when the Moss negotiations took place? Better you say? Then why does it matter whether the name on the back of the jersey reads Moss or Jennings? Thompson got the job done, just not the way Favre wanted. Boo fucking hoo.

And I say BFD. Favre was not the GM of the team, and should shut up and play.

My mistake, this was the year Jones was drafted. Same basic message applies, however. Ferguson was still a Packer, and our WR's weren't even basically the same.

If we have DD on the roster in 5 years at 7 million, either the salary cap is gonna be 200 million or we are fucked.

DD ain't making 7 mill right now...$4.9 million in '08 and $5.9 million in '09..that figure includes roster bonuses.

He'll be 35 going into 10, and if the picks we have pan out...shouldn't be better than the #4 receiver.

DD's numbers have declined the past years...he is declining, and now that brett is gone....he no longer benefits from their long relationship.

DD's days in GB are numbered, enjoy him while you can.

Before asking Thompson to redo his contract recently, and negotiations were reportedly taking place, he publicly stated last winter that he'd like to play at least 5 more years. He also wants more money. I think the two are related, Driver is going to get his money and his extension, and that's what they are working on right now. Just a guess, but it makes sense.

If TT extends him at 7 mill, I will officially join Paco as a hater. Your choice, a declining DD or Ty joining Paco. Pick your poison.

I know what DD wants, but he ain't gonna get it. TT is far to smart for that. DD wants the extension and money cause he sees the writing on the wall..jordy and jones, one injury away from never playing in GB again, and his declining skills.

Where do you evidence they are working on an extension?

Reported on ESPN a few weeks ago. Haven't heard anything since, just that they were working on something. Don't have any idea what that something is, just basing my thoughts on comments Driver has made about wanting more money and his desire to play 5 more years.

I thinjk you are going to see a fairly front-loaded deal. Driver gets most of his money now and then it will cost the Packers less later.

No, what I am saying is you give him most of his money this year and from that point you pay him at most what he is making now.
