OR played every play until it was over, was it a cheap shot hell yeah, was it legal? hell yeah! Sorry I love Cliffy and was pissed at the hit but Sapp was a hell of a football player and was a stud, and the fact is he played that play until the end, he saw a guy to hit in legal play and hit him. He has BEEN THERE...all of us are ex, some not even, jocks in football or other contact sports where we never played for a job. This guy has.Swede: My expertise in this area is extensive. The essential difference between a "battleship" and an "aircraft carrier" is that an aircraft carrier requires five direct hits to sink, but it takes only four direct hits to sink a battleship.

This kind of discussion has been going on since people began to record their thoughts. You can find all kinds of evidence - I've seen some diaries and publications from the 20's - that each generation thinks the next generation is going to hell in a handbasket. Or a skinbasket!
I wonder first if when Sapp was a highly touted rookie he respectfully soaked up the wisdom of his football elders. My guess is that he didn't give a damn at the time.
I wonder second if, when Paul Hornung was a young star, he eagerly sought out sage advice from the old-timers while Hornung was out partying it up. I'd guess not then, either."The Devine era is actually worse than you remember if you go back and look at it."

You better hope no one PMs Admin about that, you insensitive meanie.Originally posted by Fritzeach generation thinks the next generation is going to hell in a handbasket. Or a skinbasket!
We all know a generation of skinbaskets would do this country good, so I won't hold it against you, though.
As far as Sapp goes, a cheap shot is a cheap shot, legal or not. Hitting a guy just to hurt him, especially a guy you pay across from play-to-play, not only shows a lack of any kind of respect for that player, but for the way the game should be played, and gives an indication that you need to beat a guy by hurting him instead of outplaying him."You're all very smart, and I'm very dumb." - Partial

It goes way beyond the cheap shot on Clifton. He's an asshole on and off the field.

Off the field he showed no remorse for what he did to Clifton.

Thats a pile of crap. Was the hit on Clifton legal? Sure. Was is necassary? Hell no! The play was 20 some yards away from them. It was a total fucking cheap shot by Sapp. The fact he NEVER showed any remorse shows how much of an asshole he was!Originally posted by MOBB DEEPy the sapp hate in this thread?

Thats my problem with it. Even when the trainers were running out on the field and Clifton was laying there and not moving. He was laughing and talking about it with his teammates. No concern for the health of a man whose career was nearly over. Screw him.Originally posted by Pack-manThats a pile of crap. Was the hit on Clifton legal? Sure. Was is necassary? Hell no! Summing up:
The thing I learned from this thread so far is that the posters on it generally still hold a lot of hate for Warren Sapp over the Chad Clifton 'cheap shot.
Was the thread introduced to monitor the 'hate meter' on our forum? If so then Id say it's working just fine. Could we move to responding to the real question' this thread introduces?
Do younger Pro's have respect and / or awe for team Vets and retired vet's these days and was that ever the case generally or othwerwise? Please feel free to restructure the question.
By the way I hated that shit shot Sapp put on Clifton. It damn near ended his career and has he ever been the same?

Buck, it's a good question, but you have to look at the younger players individually. Do the young Packers have this issue? I highly doubt it. I recall stories of Al & Chuck being teachers on the field. And the way the team is built supports that--think of the word "Packer People."Originally posted by woodbuck27Summing up:

I think while the mood of this thread is certainly representative of the memory that we share of what Sapp did, the views that Sapp's young teammates simply didn't respect him on a personal level, may be valid. Would YOU want advice from Warren Sapp on the right way to play the game? (that's not a challenge, merely a question to ponder.) I know I wouldn't want his advice on much of anything. And he sucks at NFL Replay ads too."Greatness is not an act... but a habit.Greatness is not an act... but a habit." -Greg Jennings
