  • Crabtree threatening to sit out season

    per PFT

Per a league source, agent Eugene Parker is telling the 49ers that Crabtree will sit out the season re-enter the draft in 2010, unless the team gives Crabtree what he wants.
This is really bad for Raji getting into camp any time soon if this happens.

I don't know. It's such a freaky thing to threaten so early on that it might make Crabtree irrelevant, especially if one or two guys around that slot sign up.

I think that this is just a threat right now, but the contract talk has real potential to be drawn out for a while. This greatly affects all of the picks around Crabtree and when they'll start to sign. The thing is, it's a posturing move, but confirms what everyone's thought all along - Crabtree's agent is playing hardball and it won't be resolved soon.

The problem I see here is that most of the picks around Crabtree are waiting to see what happens with that before they sign, and this shows that they're very very far from making any progress.

This actually could have a positive effect apon the picks around him.

It is one thing to wait an extra couple days, quite another to potentially push the wait into the regular season. When it becomes clear that there is virtually zero chance of anything being resolved for weeks, unless the others want to reenter the draft next year too, time to move on and ignore the Crabtree situation.

If the agents are waiting on the Crabtree situation, likewise they just said "my client will be entering the draft next year".

I am with Waldo. It would be better if they broke off negotiations and sat out. Then without his contract to worry about in 09, signings could occur. But since we are only in the first week, I don't think its going away that quick. People will still wait.
Bud Adams told me the franchise he admired the most was the Kansas City Chiefs. Then he asked for more hookers and blow.

            Agreed.

I hope SF plays hardball with him and he follows through with it.

If Crabtree sits out a year and re-enters the draft, I would bet he drops out of the 1st round and into the mid 2nd. I would bet that his contract offer that he would eventually take, is far less than what SF is offering him right now.

Come on SF. Tell him to go F himself, cause he will really will be actually screwing himself over.

SF should publicly say this is the contract he was offered, which is fair. Each day they should take $100k off the table. State that publicly. Tell him its coming privately, give him a day, then, if he doesn't sign, go through with it.

I think we may be watching a fascinating and ugly, slow motion, train wreck.

IMO TT should not wait what others are offering. Offer what the #9 pick made last year + % increase.

Crabtree and the Raiders #1 pick are messing up the signing of the top 10.

No way the guys around Crabtree sit out all season. For several of them it would be a disaster. They could likely be drafted lower than they originally were and now they have less money and lost a year of playing and learning. No way anyone else sits the season if Crabtree does. The other players will look out for themselves and get a contract with all those millions.

                    Raji

Very disappointed in this kid. He's letting his agent dictate to him instead of the other way around. This is simple. As previously posted, take what that spot paid last year and add a percentage.

Every day he misses is a wasted chance for him. His first contract, (providing he's that good), will be enough to live on for the rest of his life.

I'm fed up with these kids and their agents. If I were the Packers, I'd put a contract in front of him with a 20% increase from last years deal for that spot and say sign now or go screw yourself!

What a complete idiot!!!! If I was Crabtree I would fire my agent and start over. What do they expect SF to do?? Completely capitulate to their demands.

All this does is piss off the SF front office and it will make the contract negotiaion harder.

So Crabtree is willing to give up million of dollars this year to get re-drafted (in a much lower spot in my thinking) next year and sign a contract for less than he would have made this year. Somebody is a complete idiot.
But Rodgers leads the league in frumpy expressions and negative body language on the sideline, which makes him, like Josh Allen, a unique double threat.

It would especially be bad for Raji, from a pure numbers perspective, since next year's draft is stacked with talent at defensive tackle.

                          No different at WR.

Dez Bryant and Arrellious Benn would give Crabtree a run for his money IF he wasn't known as a diva and all around pain-in-the-ass, and being that he would have sat/held out out a year, he has virtually no chance of going ahead of them if they stay healthy.

Add in several QB studs and and DB studs, his chances of being drafted high would be virtually nil. Unlike the crappy '09 draft where the talent pool was as bad as any in recent memory, and he still went #10, the '10 draft will be the opposite, as good as any in recent memory. A decent % of the best players went back to school.

If true that takes him out of the equation and should speed up signings.

I'll wager Raji is signed and in camp within 10 days at the most.

I can't imagine other players waiting until Crabtree is done playing his contract games to sign. If anything Crabtree holding out cold backfire on those players if they chose to do the same. Also, is there anything that says a team HAS to sign a player they drafted?
