Brian Brohm

Because Brian Brohm is currently composing his new novel New Adventures and Explorations in Sucking, I thought I'd track down the Maytag repairmen who donned the Green & Gold in the Quarterback position since Favre began his tenure. This list doesn't even include preseason cuts like Akili Smith and Tim Couch. A lot of them have gone on to have very successful careers, and others, well, not so much. So the question posed is, who should Brian Brohm be addressing in his "Special thanks to those who pioneered and blazed the trail to new unexplored territories of sucking" page of his book? Here's the list of QB's who have been on the regular season roster since 1992:

Why all the hate towards Brohm? He wasn't drafted to start. He was drafted to groom into a backup to Rodgers. Happily Flynn is doing well so we don't have to rush BB and can keep him as our 3rd stringer. Even if we wanted to move him how much trade value does he have right now anyway? I say keep in as the 3rd string and see if he improves. Rodgers wasn't all world in his second year either but we didn't NEED Rodgers to play at that time because we had Favre.

I'm with Pugger on this. Why all the concentrated hate on Brohm? There are so many players to choose from!

Might as well keep him around for another year, he has no trade value and there is nobody else on the roster. Maybe the light will go on next year, but if not, they will eventually have to cut their losses.

BB was a second round pick and deemed the most NFL ready of drafted qbs. Recall if ARod failed there was the possibility BB could start -- boy was that incorrect.

Its not hate but objective evaluations along with disappointment (what other could have been selected?)

Maybe the Packers could hire Bobby Petrino to tutor Brohm and return him to form. Petrino is about due for a move.

I guess it wasn't intended as hate, but more as an opportunity for some exaggerated humor and a look back and some of the forgotten names. He has certainly underperformed for where he was picked, but hate is a little stronger than I intended. I reserve that for the Vikings. (Sorry Ras, YOU'RE still great in my book!)

You also have to evaluate the value of the roster spot. If the coaches hold no hope of the light going on for him, they may see more value in a 4th RB from among Wynn, Lumpkin and Sutton; maybe an extra D-lineman earns a spot, or another WR or LB. Not all teams keep 3 QBs, and there may be a more valuable player than Brohm if he doesn't show potential of getting it together. I think it is a stretch that they would give up on him that quickly, but when it comes down to having to let a player go at another position, a player who has performed very well, strange things can happen.

I'd rather have another RB than Brohm. Brohm's best case value to the team is that he could bring a mid or lower round draft pick after his contract runs out. Even that looks unlikely.

BB really does look lost out there to me, but hey, so did Rodgers at about this point.
