  • Who does Aaron Rodgers remind you of?

My friend and I were dicussing, which QB does AR12 most resemble? To me, he has a combination of smarts and strength that I havent seen before, and although I know a lot about the history of the NFL, I've only watched the NFL since about 1995.

Now, I know all of these QBs have ACCOMPLISHED more than Rodgers, but Im talking about Rodgers' mold and style of play.

    Guys who come to mind:

    Bigger, stronger Joe Montana?
    Bigger Drew Brees?
    Tom Brady
    Bigger, stronger Troy Aikman?
My friends grandfather said he reminds him of Bart Starr

I want to hear from people who have more knowledge than I do, so throw out some ideas.

He's the closest QB to Steve Young since Steve Young.

Strong arm. Accurate game manager with a gunslinger streak that will take chances deep and trusts his arm in tight spots (but knows when the play isn't there and tosses it away). Mobile and a threat to take off and run at any point.

I have heard this comparison as well. Unfortunately for me, I watched Young at the tail end of his career. I would say young was far mobile, correct? (Not that Rodgers isn't, just that Young was considered a running QB, where as AR12 would be considered a mobile QB. Is this correct?)

i would also say steve young

he can run when he has to, he seems very composed in the pocket, and he has deadly accuracy

lets hope a-rod also has youngs winning ways

Not that it has anything to do with the topic at hand, but wasn't Young an asshole as he waited behind Montana?

I just remember watching this old clip with him in the locker room making an ass out of himself, saying things such as "Well obviously I want to play, and I hope to play sometime soon. And if its not here then I want them to trade me" or something like that

I struggle with that comparison somewhat because Young is a southpaw, was a better runner, and almost always led the league in QB rating. I hope Aaron can do all that - except for the southpaw part.

Young was a guy who wouldn't cash his game checks because he didn't feel he was earning them sitting on the bench. His relationship with Montana was a bit strained by the situation. But they both remained professional, and neither proved to be a distraction to the team.

AR reminds me of that "Tedford" system QB that fell like 24 spots in the draft and then was finally drafted to be a backup that old guy in GB.
                  really

Gotcha. Did he really not cash his game checks?

I am reminded of the great Bob Waterfield.

The story, as Harris Barton (former 49er offensive lineman, and Young's road roommate) tells it, is that he once opened up a drawer of Steve's and saw a big stack of un-cashed game checks.

Young is an interesting dude. When his USFL team was teetering on bankruptcy, he doled out some of his own money to help fund operations. That's the legend anyway. He earned his law degree while playing in the NFL during the off seasons. He had his first $41M USFL contract set up as an annuity. In essence, he's still getting paid $1M/year from a team that's been defunct for about 20 years.

Young had a really pretty deep ball. That part reminds me of Rodgers. Aaron's demeanor reminds me more of Montana.
