  • Story: Packers-Giants exhibition game in Bangor, 1959

As a Packers fan living in Maine, I thought this story was a real hoot to read:

The 1959 Giants were loaded with talent and were the favored NFL team throughout New England back then (and still have many fans up here); they'd just come off the famous overtime loss to the Colts in the 1958 championship game. And as most of you know, 1959 was the debut season for Vince Lombardi's Packers. Man, would that have been something to see...
Teamwork is what the Green Bay Packers were all about. They didn't do it for individual glory. They did it because they loved one another.

Thanks for posting. Too bad it wasn't what anyone expected.

Thank for posting this. I like the Gifford couldn't remember the game but did remember that he and Hornung had plans to go out drinking afterward.
Bud Adams told me the franchise he admired the most was the Kansas City Chiefs. Then he asked for more hookers and blow.

I'd think a night on the town with Paul Hornung would be pretty memorable.

The way Hornung drank if you tried to keep up with him you would not remember a thing!
