Chiefs sign Pope, try out Mark Tauscher
Posted by Gregg Rosenthal on September 29, 2009 6:17 PM ET
Chiefs coach Todd Haley didn't throw in the towel last Sunday despite protests to the contrary, and the Chiefs front office certainly isn't done trying up upgrade the bottom of their roster.

A league source has told PFT that the Chiefs signed tight end Leonard Pope Tuesday. Pope played under Haley in Arizona last season, catching nine passes.

Ideally, Pope would provide Matt Cassel another weapon in the passing game. (We'll see.) But Cassel needs better protection more than anything.

To that end, the Chiefs tried out former Packers right tackle Mark Tauscher Tuesday.

Drafted in 2000 by Green Bay, Tauscher has been recovering from ACL surgery.

The Packers wouldn't rule out re-signing Tauscher over the summer, but they haven't publicly expressed interest in him recently despite their struggles on the offensive line.

      "Chiefs Sign Pope"

One of my all-time favorite headlines.

      What position does he play?

          One of my favorites -

          "Chiefs insert Johnson behind Priest"

Larry Johnson and Priest Holmes, that is.

Back to topic, would be depressing if we don't at least get a chance to resign Tausch given the current situation at RT.

All time best tease of a haltime show:

CBS, late 80s. Brent Musberger, Will McDonough, Dick Butkus (in the Phyllis George role) and Irv Cross

"Stay tuned for the NFL on CBS Halftime Show: Brent, Will, Dick, Irv"
Bud Adams told me the franchise he admired the most was the Kansas City Chiefs. Then he asked for more hookers and blow.

I don't know what position, but he has a Green Sticker on his helmet indicating he's talking to the big guy in the sky booth.

I wonder if they actually worked Tauscher out? Would be a good indication he truly is 90 or 93% healthy.

He could be a son of a gun, couldn't he? But everyone who talks about working with him loves him. Unless he has simply moved into the "too old to hate" territory.

Bryant Gumble as the wraparound guy. He was phenomenal in that role. Unflappable. Not a play by play guy, but great in the studio.

Is Tausch ready to go? I didn't think he was.

If he is, and GB doesn't work him out, I'd be shocked. But then again, the GB coaches would know more about his than anyone else in the league, of course, so if they choose not to bring him in, I have to think there's a reason. I can't see him asking for that much money, at this point. You'd have to think he'd be willing to sign a 'prove it' type contract - minimum wage + bonuses for starting.

confused about what ? With all these future pro bowlers on our roster TT can't afford to give up a roster spot to a veteran starter
TERD Buckley over Troy Vincent, Robert Ferguson over Chris Chambers, Kevn King instead of TJ Watt, and now, RICH GANNON, over JIMMY JIMMY JIMMY LEONARD. Thank you FLOWER

There must be a method to his madness.

A tackle was released from the practice squad today, a guard signed. Not a big deal, but puzzling.
