  • OFFICIAL Vikings vs. Packers Game Day Thread - Act II

Sorry this is so late! Too much Halloween revelery. Got my game face on now (talk about scary).

A lot of raw human emotion will be on display today, including here. This is truly an epic moment that no soap opera could come close to scripting.

Bottom line here though, need to get the W and watch the Vikings begin to implod. There's is a House of Cards.

    Screaming for Vengeance!!! Today!!!!

I'd argue that could go both ways.

            No argument necessary, I agree....

Watching ESPN this morning, it heightened the sense of history, emotion and division in the Packer base. Jerry Kramer, Fuzzy Thurston and recent Packers (Freeman, Butler) had many things to say: traitor, love/hate, only thing worse would've been going to Chicago, like marrying your divorced wife's sister, etc.

In every way - this is just a game. A boy's game played by men. But in GB, it's more than just a game. It's a family. Families squabble, families disagree - and some break-up...

Everyone concedes that Favre should be allowed to do what he does - play football. But playing in Purple just isn't right. No matter what happens today, this season or even next season. It's not right. Maybe when #4 actually retires (for real) and retires a Packer, enters the HOF and Packer ring... but it's tarnished.

                    My take:

                    - Oline needs to protect ARod and limit Allen - obvious
                    - We can't expect the Grant of last week to show up - but it'd be nice to get 20 carries for 80 yards and a TD
                    - Turnovers... gotta win the battle and score of them... it'd be great to have some of the '4th Q magic' the Vikes showed last week
                    - Dual focus on AP & Brett - we can't allow single deep and getting ripped by Favre. They can't have obvious blitzes that Brett can use to advantage. Getting after Brett would be great - but Chilly/Bevell have gameplanned around that pretty well. If we solely key on AP, it'll be more of the same from a month ago.
                    - Managing emotion... the start of the game will be electric. Kickoff and let Brett's stomach contents end up on the field. Getting the ball to start the 2nd half is huge.
The measure of who we are is what we do with what we have.

My thought on this is the Packers are built on more of a solid foundation. The Vikings essentially hired a mercenary right before the season started. All the off-season work that forms the team bond had been completed. As long as winning occurs, those players that sold out all off-season in the weight room, the meeting room, etc.. will look the other way. However, when losing begins, it won't take long before fingers begin to be pointed and grumbling about the mercenary ensue.

Look what happened last year in NY. Players came out and let it be known they weren't too happy about perceived special treatment and if he were to come back they would expect full off-season participation.

                            House of Cards.
