Looks like the USA Today salary numbers for 2005. It is a bit confusing because they report all cash received in the year received. Therefore the numbers you listed include 100% of any bonus in the year it is paid. As a result, the top of the list always includes those players who signed contracts that year and received large signing bonuses.

To explain, in the following the first number is the USA Today "salary" the second number is the cap value:

      Vick - 23,102,750 ... 7,995,607
      Hasselbeck - 19,005,280 ... 6,205,280
      Eli Manning - 9,305,000 ... 3,760,000
      Favre - 9,500,000 ... 10,133,333

Note that Favre's cap number was actually higher than the USA "salary" reported. The same would apply to others who didn't receive a significant bonus that year. An even more extreme example:

      Peyton Manning per USA Today:
      salary - $ 668,520
      cap value- $8,435,186
That's because his bonus was paid in 2004. That year they have his "salary" as $35,037,700!

Yes, because of their signing bonuses. They had cap values of $2,630,280 and $2,700,00, respectively.

I think the cap number ist far more important than the the actual "cash number" in a year. (At least for the team )
Every NFL-Team (at least the serious ones) has basically an unlimited amount of cash available (GB has about 130mil in a reserve), so it would not have been a problem to pay 20 or even 40 mil to Wahle and Rivera.
But it would have been a big problem to structure it the way it fits the salary cap, especially without the raise.
The bigger question for the teams without a billionare as owner is whether the player is worth it or not. But as long the players delivers on the field we can him as much upfront as we want from a cash standpoint.

For the player of curse the cash number is far more interesting, since that is his new money at the bank .

P.S. Remeber we burnd about 8mil for coaches not on our team anymore last saison. And is it a big deal? for me it is, but no one else seems to care.
Or were there some critical questions about it at the owner meeting?

Was reading this on SI.com about the top 50 money makers in sports. Favre was #31. Salary of $10 mil, but said $7 mil in endorsements. Sensodyne must be paying him a pretty penny, because I don't know of any other current endorsements that he's doing.

This is too graphic intensive, or I would just put the list itself on here...

What about Starter? Has he done anymore of those wonderful exhibitions of acting for them?

                  Wow those were awful.
