  • Losing The Edge: Sacking Kampman Could Be Double-Edged Sword

When Aaron Kampman heard the Packers were switching to the 3-4 defense, he kept his mouth shut about his frustrations. As we all know, that was as good as saying, “I’m not on board...

Pretty interesting, after seeing the defense today without Kampman I doubt we do resign him.

Franchise him, trade him for a 2nd.

Not sure he would want to resign, but if he is willing they might resign him and use him in a Charles Haley/KGB type of third and long role.

Despite people being down on him, Kamp still collapses the pocket onto the QB with a variety of moves....he isn't a speed rusher, but he never gets stonewalled either.

So here is the thing...what do we do now? I personally think we looked more aggressive and more complete today, not that Jones is the answer, but he was decent in his rush, decent in run support, and alright in pass coverage. I think we're better off with someone else there than Kampman at OLB...but where does Kampy play then? Jenkins & Jolly play the 3-4 Ends pretty well. I think Kampy would be better at DE for the rest of the year, but Jolly and Jenkins fit so well.

so what do we do now?

4-3 is old....our Defense is better than it ever was last year.

I like the 3-4. I like Kampman. But it's hard to argue with the success they had tonight.
One time Lombardi was disgusted with the team in practice and told them they were going to have to start with the basics. He held up a ball and said: "This is a football." McGee immediately called out, "Stop, coach, you're going too fast," and that gave everyone a laugh.

I know its only one guy but I also like the idea of Jones at OLB over Kampman. Jones play a similair style defense at Colorado. I like Kampman and all but he is just not a LB. He also lost some weight this offseason to prepare for his new role so I think he might be alittle light to be DE right now in the 3-4.

But why? Why did they look so much different tonight? They came out more aggressive, they stayed more aggressive. They ran blitz's that worked, and it seems I haven't seen from them all year....aka, the Pittsburg cross fire blitz with Hawk & Barnett.

Can't change the whole defense for one player when guys like Jolly, Matthews, Jenkins, and others are thriving in the 3-4.

This game reminded me a lot of the Bears game. So far this season you never know which defense is going to show up.

I think there are two big reasons why they looked so good.

First, Bigby and Collins were healthy. Second, they were motivated, fired up.

Pickett, Hawk and Al Harris weren't in on a lot of big plays, but they didn't make mistakes and were in the right spots. I thought Hawk was outstanding. When you got dependable players handling their responsibilities, others can get real aggresive without hurting you.

Agreed. Don't know what to do about Kamp either.
