  • Official Packers vs 49ers Game Thread

We won last week so I guess I get to try and keep the streak alive.

If our defense plays anything like last week, I don't see a problem getting enough points to win this game. Even with how good San Frans de has been playing. We may even get a score from our defense this week

Ironic that after many failed attempt this year Gex will start up the game day thread winning streak

Bretsky -guaranteed -4 before the Cowboyz game last week and for good karma offer another nail on the coffin guarantee soon
TERD Buckley over Troy Vincent, Robert Ferguson over Chris Chambers, Kevn King instead of TJ Watt, and now, RICH GANNON, over JIMMY JIMMY JIMMY LEONARD. Thank you FLOWER

And once you make that guarantee we must all come down on you, raining curses down upon your head.

You can take this one to the bank. Pack are gonna win by way more than a TD as the line suggests (6.5). I'm not high on this Pack team but after reading about the strengths of SF and knowing Clements is out, I say we carve them up.

I suspect Chuck will cover VD all day like a glove. If Crabtree doesn't beat us (which good happen, he's a stud), we've got a win. 34 - 17 Packers

No Ahman Green, but no Takeo Spikes either.

              From PFT.com
San Francisco linebacker Takeo Spikes and Green Bay running back Ahman Green are among the players who were listed as questionable but will not play today.

In addition to Spikes, the 49ers' inactives are third quarterback Nate Davis, defensive backs Keith Smith and Nate Clements, center Cody Wallace, tackle Joe Staley, wide receiver Brandon Jones and defensive end Ricky Jean-Francois

In addition to Green, the Packers' inactives are wide receiver Biren Ealy, defensive back Matt Giordano, tackles Breno Giacomini and Allen Barbre, defensive end Mike Montgomery and linebacker Jeremy Thompson.

Another must win. Packers beat the spread.

                  Some insights:

Niners have only recorded 17 sacks to date - with their OLBs only getting 3.5. Keep an eye out for NT Aubrayo Franklin - he's quitely having a decent season. If Wells is out (and EDS in) - it'll be a long game.

Their D is ranked #2 (behind the Packers). They are tough against the run but play soft/prevent in the pass - with a weak safety. They've held the likes of Peyton Manning without a TD pass but are inconsistent (only allowing 9 all year).

Don't expect special teams to decide this game - both clubs are pretty awful in this category.

Similar keys as last few weeks:
                  1. Keep AR upright -- more max protect, shifts, rolls... we've made every team look like rockstars with pressure (even the lowly Bucs)
                  2. Attack through the air but keep them honest with Grant/Green
                  3. Get after Smith and spy either Gore or Davis (depending on who's having issues with coverage)
                  4. Don't let down after Cowboys -- they have to keep the defensive intensity and play like their asses are on the line (because they are all the time).

Since there's a short week and the Lions, it's hard to look past this game. It's huge for conference record and playoff position. I see a low scoring affair coming down to the 4th Q with Crosby needing some clutch kicks (he's only missed one inside 49 yards).
The measure of who we are is what we do with what we have.

Wow, I didn't realize their D was ranked #2. I thought they were middle of the road. Could turn out to be a tougher game than I thought.

Good posts. I could see it coming down to Crosby too, with this newly discovered knowledge.

Boy, is it nice to have Finley back.
Teamwork is what the Green Bay Packers were all about. They didn't do it for individual glory. They did it because they loved one another.
