  • 2009 Draft Class - reviewed

Ted Thompson's 2009 Draft class could go down as his best, so far. Below is each pick and a very brief overview of each draft picks contributions to date.

    1-9 NT B.J. Raji
    Boston College

After slow start to season due to an ankle injury, has started to make a significant impact for Green Bay's defensive line. Has explosive first step and is extremely powerful with good leverage. Long term solution at NT, but making huge impact as an interior lineman on passing situations.

    1-26 LB Clay Matthews
    USC

Didn't take long after Matthews' hamstring was fully healed to start to make an impact on defense. Show exceptional burst off the line, very good change of direction and fluid hips. Has started to learn the nuances of playing outside linebacker. Has makings of a future star.

    4-109 G/T T.J. Lang
    Eastern Michigan

Has played well at each position he has been asked to fill. Drafted originally as a right tackle or guard, but has shown the ability to play left tackle. Could make an exceptional right tackle or adequate left tackle. Looks like a long-term starter on the offensive line.

    5-145 FB Quinn Johnson
    LSU

Incomplete at this point. Has shown some flashes on special teams and as a lead fullback, but still struggles with the nuances of the game. If he is able to slow down the game, could be an effective lad blocker for years.

    5-162 OT Jamon Meredith
    South Carolina

Struggles with all aspects of game. Signed off waivers by Buffalo, long term potential to be adequate tackle in NFL.

    6-182 DE Jarius Wynn
    Georgia

    Incomplete at this time.

    6-187 CB Brandon Underwood
    Cincinnati

Currently special teams contributor. Jury is still out on if he can be anything more than a fifth DB.

    7-218 LB Brad Jones

    Colorado

Suprise 7th round selection. Filled in admirably for Aaron Kampman in week 10 and knows the 3-4 from his days as a Buffalo. Slightly undersized, but very good in coverage.
