Seems pretty serious. Football is the least of his worries right now...hope he's okay.

Sounds like a serious burner or stinger.

The spinal vertabrae compress so much that nerve roots get contacted.

It can be a day or a month long "nothing you can do about it" recovery.

Because of the spinal column and nerves are involved everyone takes the maximum precautions.

There is no real rehab for such things but time and that is unpredictable. Pray it isn't a lingering one and he is available for Monday's game.

This is his 2nd year in the league and learning the new 3-4 defense. Way too early to give up on Thompson IMO.

I hope he's ok. Waldo was saying he was the 2nd coming of Kevin Greene in training camp. I'd like to see that realized in the future. I hope he's ok, though.

Guess I called that one... My friend's doctor said he shouldn't play - one bad angle hit and you're in a wheelchair. Big gamble - especially as he's had four neck injuries. I'd walk away - while I could.

This is Thompson's fourth neck-related injury dating to 2007, when he was a senior at Wake Forest.

Thompson revealed that he had previously been diagnosed with spinal stenosis, the narrowing of the spinal canal. It's a condition that prematurely ended the careers of two former Packers receivers, Sterling Sharpe and Terrence Murphy.

"Well, I have (stenosis), just a little bit though, but it's not really the issue," Thompson said. "The issue was just that I was in a compromising position."

Thompson said the stenosis may be related to his chronic neck injuries.

"Yeah, it could be," Thompson said. "But with proper training and getting me with the right padding - we'll have to look at that again - you can handle it and are able to take care of it. It's not at the point where it causes any harm toward you."

Thompson said he likely will see a spinal specialist in the coming weeks.
