Contrary to earlier reports, Packer personnel man, John Schneider is now GM in Seattle. Hopefully he doesnt take too much talent (scouts, etc).

Kind of surprises me in a way, only because of the somewhat muddied lines of responsibility that seem to be coming out of Seattle between the new HC and GM. On the other hand, it might be tailor made for a relatively young guy like him to step up where older candidates might be less interested.

The front office just got lighter. The more games we win, the more were gonna see this. I think Murphy has bigger stones than Harlen had when the overrated blowhard walrus left for greener pastures.Lombardi told Starr to "Run it, and let's get the hell out of here!" - 'Ice Bowl' December 31, 1967

Lofty position in the NFL for a man of 38. Anyone know if he's the youngest GM in the NFL?
Jack Vanisi, who put together the roster Lombardi won 5 titles with in the 60's, was in his late 20's/early 30's when he GM'd the Packers in the late 50's. He died in 1960 at 33.

It looks like he's the youngest.
Jeff Ireland, who has indeterminant authority under Bill Parcells, looks to be 39, assuming he entered college at 18. It's curious that they leave his birthdate blank on the Dolphins website. Ireland Bio
Hard to say how much impact he's had individually on the Packers, but I think it does say something about how others in the league perceive the quality of work that has been done here.

So they're running the Seahogs now, eh? Bet Pete Carroll had a hand - or two - in those hirings!
More seriously, I'd like to know what the lines of authority really are. Kind of a tough spot for young Schneider - the organization hired the guy who works under you before they hired you. How much say do you really have?"The Devine era is actually worse than you remember if you go back and look at it."
