  • Want to end some draft confusion? Big Board #1

Tired of everyone posting a one round mock and calling themselves an expert?

Have a tough time figuring out how a player can 68th on one big board, 137 on another and 233rd on another, and figure where he really ranks?

Let me help. I have averaged 4 big boards and come up my own. At this point there is a lot of variability among the boards so I will do some more before the draft but right now my big board is:

That is only enough to get you through the 5th round plus compensatory picks but accuracy is tough after that.

See where your draft info disagrees with the consensus.
See where Ted might want to trade down.
See what may be available when the Packers turn comes around

Why does everyone think Notre Dame's QB will be the first quarterback selected? I just don't see it.

They were talking on NFL radio today that all 3 QBs on the south team sucked. Tebow couldn't get an exchange from the center without fumbling 30% of the time or missing the RB for the handoff.

They said the kid from Troy (no idea who that is) just moved up big time by not even being there.
But Rodgers leads the league in frumpy expressions and negative body language on the sideline, which makes him, like Josh Allen, a unique double threat.

I just averaged some boards. That is the consensus. Desperate teams do desperate things. My Big Board is what the draft sites are saying, not that they are right. Scouts are saying this is not a good year for QB's.

I disagreed with everyone about Reggie Bush and over time have been proven right. He wasn't a worth a first round pick because he is too small for the NFL.

        I trust Ted.

Hey, the more QB's taken early, the better it is for the Packers so talk up those QB's. We want quality picks at other positions. Tim Tebow is a case in point. I don't see him being worth a 3rd round pick yet he is getting ranked as a 2nd round pick.

I will say this as a Notre Dame fan. I really liked Jimmy Clausen. He's got everything talent wise. I really compare him to Phillip Rivers in the fact that Jimmy just thinks he's gonna win every game, and complete every pass...he's got a cockiness to him, and I like it. I do wish Jimmy would have stuck around South Bend another year, but I understand. I do think Jimmy is the top QB in this draft, but as for where that would be truly, I don't know. I don't think any QB this year is worthy of a top 5 or top 10 pick. But I like Jimmy a lot, and I think if some team is patient with him, and let him progress, i.e. - Rodgers, I think he could be very special.

The QB class this year is poor to Detroit Lions bad. Bradford is the only guy IMO who compares favorably to Clausen...but he has some injury concerns after getting beat up this season. I wouldn't be shocked to see someone prefer Clausen.

There isn't a standout stud QB...and the blue chip prospects are limited.
My signature has NUDITY in it...whatcha gonna do?

Bradford's a system QB with a Pennington-esque arm who is coming off of a major shoulder injury. None of the other QBs even deserve a first round grade. If I had to have only one of them, I'd pick Clausen in a heartbeat. He played in a pro-style offense, his mechanics, and his intangibles are both above average. Remember, they had some bad teams at ND in the Weiss years; bad teams but really good offenses.

The one guy that QB-needy friends are broken up about going back to school for his senior season is Washington's Jake Locker, who, though still pretty raw, has the tools to be a bigger, stronger, right handed Steve Young.

I would think Tebow would be the first QB selected based on his resume and leadership skills. I haven't watched an entire Notre Dame game with Clausen at QB, but I've seen a little tape. His arm strength didn't seem outstanding to me, but like I said...I haven't watched an entire game. I'll definitely check out some more highlights on that kid. I heard that WVU's Jarrett Brown impressed some scouts. He's a good QB, but he had to sit behind Pat White until his senior year and he hasn't had a chance to show what all he can do. Hopefully he'll get a chance at the next level.

nah, tebow is down the list a bit, and that was before the disaster at the senior bowl practices

tebow was a great qb in a qb friendly college system, many experts question is he can do it in the pros. and he's proving them right at the senior bowl, despite working on the pro type things all year

Clausen's got more upside to him than any of the other QBs in the draft. That's what the scouts like about him. His style of play lends itself to the NFL better than the others.

The other big 3 QBs (Tebow, Bradford and McCoy) all play in video game offenses that just rolled people. Clausen was it for the Irish and he did very well. Clausen's gonna be a very good QB so long as he doesn't play for a shit org.

the thing i don't like about clausen is a guy named brady quinn

quinn was also a sure fire over hyped notre dame player from the same system

quinn sucked, like almost all of the "ready for the pros" qb's that ND has sent out since joe montana

Good post. Brady Quinn was supposed to be the future of the Browns. If the Browns are smart, they'll draft a QB.

Quinn only received one year of Weis coaching as opposed to Clausen's three. Many nd qbs did not play in a pro style offense like Clausen.

                          Clausen = Matt Ryan

If you think Tebow should be the first QB selected, no offense at all, but you really don't know how to scout college QBs for the NFL game. Tebow is basically the platonic form of "a college superstar who may not fit in in the NFL."

Tebow is a long, long, long way from being an NFL QB. Not to say he won't get there, because he has the work ethic he needs, but the fact that he played in a really gimmicky offense in college severely hurts his pro prospects.

                            Keep in mind some things:

-Tebow played out of the shotgun exclusively in college. In the Senior Bowl practices on monday, he had significant problems with the Center-Quarterback exchange, and that's basically the easiest thing a QB has to do.

-Tebow's throwing mechanics are awful, he has a long, slow, looping delivery and he frequently throws ducks. His arm strength is already mediocre, and his release has no snap to it.

-Tebow's footwork in the passing game is some of the worst I've ever seen for a purported quarterback.

-He didn't really have to read coverages at all in college, as the release option was always "tuck it and run" and unlike most running QBs (like Vince Young or Michael Vick) Tebow is a power runner, not a speedy elusive guy. That is, he basically runs like a fullback which is going to lead to him taking a lot of unnecessary hits.

Basically, without the legend of Tebow, he wouldn't be a guy that anybody is considering seriously as a QB at all. He'd be a project to convert to a TE, RB, or WR. Great college player, but he won't contribute as a pro quarterback for at least 3 years.

Well, he did have some very good receivers to throw to, but he didn't have a running game to speak of and his offensive line was mediocre.
