I would question that he developed Bulger. I guess my perspective is that QBs do well under him, but he doesn't develop them to the point that they can do well when he's gone. Warner is an obvious exception to this, except for the fact that it took him about five years after Martz to start playing efficient football again. Bulger has turned into an average QB without Martz, Kitna was average until being put on IR after Martz. I think Martz can get good numbers out of a QB, but that doesn't mean he develops them. It just means he knows how to use them.No longer the member of any fan clubs. I'm tired of jinxing players out of the league and into obscurity.

I think he was like their sixth choice, after everybody else turned them down. With a difficult QB and a coach on the hotseat, the OC position doesn't exactly scream "job security" right now. Martz will probably be fired after one year even if he does a pretty decent job.Originally posted by Scott CampbellMartz has been a disaster at his last two gigs. I'm surprised he was even considered for this.</delurk>

All the coaches there are in a tough position, as Lovie probably has only this year left to prove that he should be retained. One and done perhaps.
But the PFT version of events is that Lovie wanted him from the beginning and even paid for his trip to TN for Martz to meet with Cutler. This version of events has the GM Angelo holding out hope for someone else. PFT had his first choice as Chudzinski out of San Diego I think.
Of course, that could all be cover to make it seem like Martz was someone's first choice.Bud Adams told me the franchise he admired the most was the Kansas City Chiefs. Then he asked for more hookers and blow.

I think you're wrong on this. They gave up a 2009 1st and 3rd along with a 2010 1st for Cutler. Then the Bears gave up their 2010 2nd for Gaines Adams. As far as I know, they have all their picks in 2011, although their is still time for Angelo to do something stupid.Originally posted by JoemailmanThey are in trouble. No 1st and 2nd round pick in 2010, and no 1st and 3rd round pick in 2011. They don't have the OL anymore to be a ball control team even if Martz wanted to do that. In 2 years I think the Lions will be better than the Bears.Go PACK

I'm not saying he'll turn the Bears into an offensive powerhouse, but I think there's a good chance he'll get more out of Cutler than Ron Turner did.All hail the Ruler of the Meadow!

Yes, people are being a little impatient with Angelo. Give him time. He seems to have gone into the "all in" mode - Cutler trade, Lovie's last year to prove himself, and an uneven personalty in Martz as OC. If Angelo thinks his own job is on the line, who knows how many future #1's and 2's he might part with in order to secure a front-line guard like Logan Mankins?Originally posted by Bossman641I think you're wrong on this. I wonder how little they'll demand from us to take Jarrett Bush of our hands. If we could give them a third rounder to take him, it might be worth it...Originally posted by FritzYes, people are being a little impatient with Angelo. Give him time. They may be gnashing now (Bears fans), but I predict they'll end up pretty happy with the guy. He gets a bad rap as inflexible -- I don't know why. For some reason people peg him that way, then describe the Greatest Show on Turf as the only kind of offense Martz knows how to run. Believe me -- it's been a long time since he's had a Greatest anything. He made a Lion's offense respectable that, the year after he left, was the worst in the league. He came in to San Francisco and gave us the best offense we've had in years -- including this year's, when we had better talent.
He was a nice guy when he was here in SF; he always tried hard to do what they wanted him to do. I never got the idea he was arrogant.
He made Sean Hill look like a serviceable quarterback, and that's a mobile guy with bad accuracy and no arm (but heart...a lot of heart...whatever that means, everyone agrees he's got that). San Francisco's 2008 wide receivers make the Bear's WRs look golden. Our TE was our best option, and our offense was built around Frank Gore, and we had a crappy O-line, and Martz did better with them than we managed to do this year, despite our suddenly having Michael Crabtree to throw to.
I think of him as the offensive version of Gregg Williams. He can come in and make any crappy offense respectable. I wish we had him back. Chicago's lucky to have him.Bud Adams told me the franchise he admired the most was the Kansas City Chiefs. Then he asked for more hookers and blow.

It is amazing how little they will have received for the picks they traded. All told, in the last year they will have given up 2 1st round picks, a 2nd and a 3rd and Kyle Orton. With the tragic death Of Gaines Adams, all they will have to show for it is Cutler and a 5th round pick last year.I can't run no more

While the killers in high places
Say their prayers out loud
But they've summoned, they've summoned up
A thundercloud
They're going to hear from me - Leonard Cohen
