  • Bills LT retires

This is something - the Bills starting LT retires...at the ripe old age of 26! Four years in the league, as a starting LT he should've been coming into a decent contract, and he quits to go work in government!

ORCHARD PARK, N.Y. -- Buffalo Bills starting right tackle Brad Butler has announced his retirement.

The news Thursday comes as a surprise after the 26-year-old Butler just completed only his fourth NFL season.

Butler majored in government studies at Virginia, and spent the 2008 offseason interning at Kemp Partners in Washington DC with former and late Bills quarterback and congressman Jack Kemp.

Butler said in a statement: "My passion for education, country and community is something that I am ready to devote my full attention to.

"I believe the best way to pursue these spheres of interest is to step away from the game of football at this point in my life."

Butler started all but two of the 33 career games he played in after being drafted in the fifth round of the 2006 draft.

Jamon Meredith, step right up. You are the next contestant on . . . the left tackle is right!

He was their right tackle. But still... shocking.

There's one less T available in the draft...

Wasn't John Frank the stud tight end with the Niners that retired to go to medical school? And Robert Smith from the Vikings retired in his prime too. I happens. Not a lot, but it happens.
