Packers Mock Draft 2010

Normally I wouldn't speculate so hard until after the combine and comp picks and whatnot but for shits and giggles I'm going to put out my first mock draft now.

Jerry Hughes Jr.
DE, TCU
6'2" 255

I'd love to nab Bruce Campbell with this pick however I have a feeling he'll be long gone. At this time this is considered a bit of a reach however Hughes sat out the senior bowl and I feel he'll make up for the lost exposure in the coming months and make it to the bottom of round 1 or top of round 2. There is a chance we could still land him with pick #56 but I think he's a special player and thus I took him here. Anyways Hughes is one of the most productive players in college football and led the NCAA in sacks in 2008. He's got a great first step, and a motor like has never been seen. He's expected to look a little stiff in coverage being a DE and all but speed won't be his issue. He played LE in college which is a little odd but it should be fairly natural to play LOLB for the Packers. Also should be noted that he wants to be a Packer.

Made a name for himself at the shrine game where he was called "The best player on the field." He's a long time starter at LT has the footwork and athleticism for the position along with a decent 33.25" reach. If one of the better tackle prospects fell to us in Round one, I'd pray for Jerry Hughes Jr. here.

I chose this pick because he's an Aaron Rouse clone and TT once picked Rouse. Kam is more established than Rouse and more physical making him better suited to SS.

Round 4

Akwasi Owusu-Ansah
CB, Indiana (PA)
6'1" 205

The Deon Sanders of D-II for what that's worth. Has the size of a true TT corner. Possesses liquid hips and elite ball skills which should translate to any level of competition. Also can return punts and kicks.

Round 5

Tim Hiller
QB, Western Michigan
6'4" 230

Best arm in the draft. Good accuracy. Good decisions. 4.0 Student. Not sure why he's expected to fall this far.

Round 6

Linval Joseph
DT, East Carolina
6'6" 322

Might not last this long in a draft not loaded with talent at DT but this one is. Looks like a nose tackle but plays like a 3 tech, much like Raji. Questions for him are about his strength and stamina. Could provide a rotational player in nickle and dime packages while he develops.

Round 7

Shawnbrey McNeil
RB, Southern Methodist
5'10" 200

Lightning Quick and a good receiver. Has return skills too. A nice compliment to Ryan Grant.

Hell no on Kam Chancellor!

I'm a VT fan and go to atleast two games a year and you are right Chancellor is a clone of Aaron Rouse and thats just the reason why I don't want him. Way too many break downs in coverage. Also we'll end up resigning Kampman so no way are we using our 1st rounder on a LB.

In a mock draft I generally choose to have reaches instead of fallers as fallers inherently make for an unrealistic draft.

Hughes may be seen as a reach right now but before the senior bowl he was going at the bottom of the first round after the combine I think he'll be back. Is it really a reach if I feel he belongs there?

I have Saffold rated about the same as Beatty from last year who went at 60 overall. He's probably the last OT that has the pass pro to be considered by us. I'd call this a minor reach.
