that being said I did enjoy this transcript and believe I got something of value out of reading it.

When he explained why he moved up to get Burnett, I respected that decision also, and his rationale for doing it.

    That's progress, I guess.
Yeah, the Burnett explanation was a rare case of disclosure. It is so rare (not the first time, but close) that I find myself thinking he didn't say as much as I think he said.

After the Matthews pick last year, it was clear from his comments that they went up to get the player. I wonder if trading up this time was exclusively for Burnett, or if someone else would have intrigued him.
Bud Adams told me the franchise he admired the most was the Kansas City Chiefs. Then he asked for more hookers and blow.

You just never know. I interpreted his comments to be "player driven". That Burnett was at the top of the board, and so much higher than the rest of the players in the band, that it made sense to "go get him".

You question if he really said anything. I on the other hand, interpreted it as "growth" and was really impressed by the willingness to reveal something truthful, instead of backtalk and double speak.

It was also good for me to hear him say that continually trading down didn't make much sense anymore, because the team has reached the point where these lower draft choices will have difficulty making the team. If that's the case, then trading up for someone that the coaching staff believes will make the team makes sense. I'm thinking, good for them! And with those statements, I am on board.

I found Thompson's comment about not moving up for need but for players intriguing and insightful. I'm not sure it can be taken exactly literally - would he trade into the first round and give up a lot if a QB he loved was sitting there? I'm not so sure. But the gist of the thing makes sense - it has to be a player he loves, but I'd think it has to be at a position where the guy will be able to compete for a job.

They really do seem high on Burnett.

Clefty would have liked to question Thompson about Thompson. However, reflecting on it it, the answer probably wold have been: "This is football. These things happen. We have to look forward."
