  • Finding players in unconventional ways...

From the JSO article about Khalil Jones switching from WR to safety:

"Assistant director of pro personnel Eliot Wolf, who has developed a niche trying to find players in unconventional ways.....

Maybe this has been discussed - but is Elliot Wolf related to Ron Wolf?

How exactly has he "developed a niche, finding players in unconventional ways"??

Did he "find" Spencer Havner last year? Aside from Frankenbacker (Havner) - who else has he "found" and how is it "unconventional?

They took a little more conventional route for finding Cliffy's replacement this year.

I think Eliot is Ron's son.
Bud Adams told me the franchise he admired the most was the Kansas City Chiefs. Then he asked for more hookers and blow.

Havner played both ways in high school so he had tight end experience.

LB Frank Zombo played wide receiver in high school and defensive end in college. Some teams were looking at him at tight end.

A lot of these prospects are good football players and are versatile.
The two main talents they have are blocking and tackling. If you are good at blocking and tackling, teams will be interested.
A lot of extra stuff can be coached.

The main thing is that Packers really do give these guys a chance. They may take a couple years on the practice squad but some can get it done.
        It all has some meaning.

Even if a guy walks away with a jersey with his name on it, it will be treasured. He will proudly tell everyone for the rest of his life he had a tryout with the Green Bay Packers.

Most of us have never earned a tryout.

          That sounds really bad.
