I'm all pumped up about the punter battle. I'm rooting for the Aussie at this point - he's got that unusual Aussie football skill of making the ball "do things" when he punts. And I can't imagine he'd get rattled. Hell, he's got Aussie football players flying around him. The sport seems to my untrained eye a little more precarious for a punter than American football.
If the guy can deliver consistent quality punts, the team defense can then be better than it was. This could help a great deal."The Devine era is actually worse than you remember if you go back and look at it."

Have to love some of the skills those boys bring to the table.Originally posted by FritzI'm all pumped up about the punter battle. I love telling the story of an Aussie Football player who was the backup FB on my uni team. Guy could punt, on the run, with either foot.
We line up for a short yardage, 3 and 1 play (Canadian rules, 3 downs, dontcha know). He takes the toss on an option play, rolls out and sees defenders. He half plants, and hammers the ball down the field. They didn't have anyone deep. I remember their safety looking up at the ball as it sailed over his head, probably 20' in the air! That ball was downed with no return!--
Imagine for a moment a world without hypothetical situations...

An option play on 3rd and short? I love those Aussie's too. Great feet and a totally different sense of the game and field position. I played rugger with Aussies, Euro's etc. They taught me a lot of stuff that American football players just don't think of.
You don't look at the defenders coming to tackle you, look at the whole pitch to kick to the parts that ain't defended.
There is a big problem with the VFL Aussie's they bring over here to be punters in the NFL. VFL is a game played on the run. The Aussies like to take multiple steps when they really wanna boom one. It's damned near impossible to get those boys to do the two step drop most NFL ST coaches want.
A few learn, but a lot of 'em don't.

Gutsy or knew nothing else. Our Offensive playbook seemed to consist of 'option right' and 'option left' with the occasional 'Full back draw'!Originally posted by KYPack

What you said about them taking multiple steps seems right - when this guy punted, he was on a full run trying to get to the corner.--
