    Quinn Porter

    Never heard of this guy before but hear he has been impressing so far in camp.

    Undrafted FA RB from Stillman College

    6′0″ 205 lbs, 4.48 40yd time

    This guy is a threat out of the backfield and seems to be a very good kick returner. Will be rooting for this guy to make the roster this season. Hopefully we'll keep 4 RBs instead of 3 FBs this season.

    After spending his redshirt season and first four games of his freshman year at WR, asked the coaches if he could move to RB due to injuries at that position… Made his collegiate debut at RB at Miles College (Sept. 24), and stayed there for the rest of his career. Rushed for 2,788 yards and 24 TDs on 511 carries (5.5 avg.) in 37 games… Added 68 receptions for 887 yards (13.0 avg.) and 12 TDs and posted a 32.0-yard average on 19 kickoff returns. Porter was also the starting punter soph & junior years (35 yd avg) and was 2 for 2 on passes thrown for over 50 yds each and 1 TD.

    As a senior, received honorable mention All-America honors from D2Football.com. His average of 138.1 rushing yards per game ranked fifth in Division II. Posted a 39.8-yard average on 10 kickoff returns, highlighted by a pair of 90-yard TDs.

    With Starks' continuing hamstring problems, Porter has a real chance if he can return kickoffs.

      I agree but I actually hope we can keep both. Grant, Jackson, Starks, and Porter at RB with Johnson and Kuhn at FB.

        Every year...EVERY year there is some unknown running back in
        Green Bay who tears it up in pre-season games, makes me root for him to make the team, gets cut, and is never heard from again.


        Anyway, it'd be nice to find somebody whose particular skill in life is being an NFL kick returner. That would be a great reason to go four deep at RB this year.

            The one undrafted RB who worked was the one we traded for - Ryan Grant. Giants got any UDFA RB's this year they want to get rid of?

                We loved Sutton's vision and shake but wasn't he a 4.7 forty guy? If anything, Porter is pretty fast... at least he's in the same ballpark as other NFL RBs.

                  There are two kinds of compliments from NFL coaches: the kind where they say something nice about a player when asked specifically about that player and the kind that are offered unsolicited.

                  It’s the latter that should make you take notice.

                  Such was the case with rookie running back Quinn Porter.

                  In a general discussion about the running game yesterday between practices, offensive coordinator Joe Philbin began talking up Porter without ever being asked about him specifically.

                  “I like this young kid, Porter,” Philbin said. “He’s tough. He steps up in there, hits the hole. His helmet’s flown off a couple of times, and he just picks it up and buckles it up and goes again.”

                  Porter began training camp seemingly as a body. But with rookie sixth-r0und draft pick James Starks sidelined with a recurring hamstring injury, suddenly Porter might not be the long shot he once looked like. At this point, it appears there’s a spot on the roster for someone — possibly Porter — as the No. 3 running back behind Ryan Grant and Brandon Jackson.

                  In the practice right after Philbin’s remark, sure enough, Porter busted off a long run powering through a small hole during a team run period.

                  The 6-0, 205-pound Porter, who played at relatively unknown Stillman College, also has been getting some reps as a returner.

                    One of the keys - as always for a backup RB in Green Bay - will be his ability to pick up pass protection calls and block for Rodgers on pass plays. The other question will be his ability to catch a football.

                      So you're saying the main job of the back-up RB in GB is NOT racking up first downs in the 4th quarter of pre-season games. This explains a lot.

                          Well Porter provided some excitement at Training Camp today.

                          He hit a hole hard in what looked like an off-tackle play to the right, cut back inside the d-back and was GONE for a TD.

                            Free agent Quinn Porter continued to impress by ripping off an 80-yard TD run. "He jumps out, every practice," coach Mike McCarthy said. "Everybody’s excited about it. He’s shown some very natural run instincts."
