  • Clay Mathews credited with an extra sack

    From Rotoworld:
After further film review, the NFL has credited Packers OLB Clay Matthews with three Week 1 sacks.

He was initially credited with two. Three marks a career high for the 2009 first-round pick. Along with Mario Williams, Brian Urlacher, and LaRon Landry, Matthews was among the NFL's most dominant defenders during Week 1.

And he still didn't get DPOW for the NFC.

How could he not get DPOW?

Funny. After the game, I was thinking he had three sacks and was surprised when they said he only had two.

Chuck Wood and CMIII share the defensive player of the year award this year!!!

Clay now leads the league in sacks. As a team, we lead the league in sacks with 6. Nobody else has more than 4.

Mason Crosby got the special teams POW.

Adrian Wilson won the DPOW. You should be disqualified from winning it if you show up the team that drafted #1 overall the previous year...especially if they're starting a rookie QB!!!

Maybe he could give it to A.J. since after Sunday, Hawk must be missing his.

Matthews might be looked at as the greatest move Teddy ever made.

Not to choke on too much kool-aid, but I was wondering if Matthews has a legitimate chance to take it home this year. I think he'll be in the conversation at the end of the year, but having Woodson on the same team might mean they both undermine the other's effectiveness (can you really have two MVP candidates on the same team?).

EDIT: I'm not counting my eggs before they've hatched. I was just wondering theoretically. He looks to be primed for a huge year, barring the unexpected. Was there a team that's ever had two DPOYs? What are the historical odds?

The way it's looking, that could be quite possible. But signing Charles Woodson was absolutely huge.

                      From McCarthy's PC today:
(You listed Matthews as limited today; did he have a setback in the game?)

It’s sore. I think that is appropriate for the number of snaps that he played in the game, and not playing in live competition over four weeks. He is very sore.
I sure hope the hammy isn't going to be a recurring problem...

Yeah I know. He got four weeks rest, was hoping he was over that. Without him the defense is nothing.
