If you want M3's response to any of these injuries it is as follows: We're just being smart with him, taking the high side of caution. It's day-to-day. We're just gonna be smart.

But on a positive note, in the same article, it said Al Harris is back.

Latest Injury Report - Sat. AM 5 Aug.2006

Cornerback Al Harris (elbow) and tight end Zac Alcorn (side) returned to practice Friday.

Leo Bookman (ankle) who had returned to practice the last couple of days was out again.

Cornerback Charles Woodson had an ice pack wrapped on his hip toward the end of practice for what McCarthy called a hip flexor. He said Woodson would be evaluated Saturday morning as to whether he would participate in the scrimmage.

Same for running back Najeh Davenport (ankle, cramps), who missed practice again.

Among first-team players, tight end Bubba Franks (knee) and offensive tackle Chad Clifton (knee) will not participate in the Family Night scrimmage.

The following players were scratched from the scrimmage on Family Night due to injury:

receiver Leo Bookman (ankle); safety Marquand Manuel (calf); cornerbacks Will Blackmon (foot), Patrick Dendy (ankle), Mike Hawkins (knee) and Charles Woodson (hip); running backs Ahman Green (quad), Arliss Beach (concussion) and Najeh Davenport (ankle); linebackers Brady Poppinga (knee) and Byron Santiago (back); offensive tackle Chad Clifton (knee); guard William Whitticker (hamstring); and tight end Bubba Franks (knee). Receiver Robert Ferguson missed the scrimmage for personal reasons. McCarthy said it was a family matter.

                At Family Night.

Safety Nick Collins appeared to be OK after a scary collision. On a deep ball to Boerigter down the sideline that fell incomplete, Collins had trouble stopping after going out of bounds, slipped down and collided with a non-padded portion of wall at the front row of the stands. Collins was briefly looked at by the training staff and jogged off the field under his own power. The injury was to his back, and he did not return

                  Rookie cornerback not nearly recovered
Blackmon sidelined by broken bone in foot

Green Bay - It's beginning to look as if rookie cornerback Will Blackmon won't be ready to play until at least mid-season if he plays at all for the Green Bay Packers this season.

Blackmon, a fourth-round draft choice from Boston College, has been out since suffering a break of the fifth metatarsal bone in his right foot during a routine play on May 21, the last day of the second minicamp.

Surgery was performed shortly thereafter and a screw was inserted to promote healing. Still, Blackmon hasn't even been able to start running yet.

"You're just worried about it because of where the injury is," coach Mike McCarthy said. "I don't want that kid to have a setback. We're going to be smart there."

Blackmon said doctors had told him the injury has healed faster than expected but there was no timetable for his return.

"It'll probably be another six weeks because I want to be 100% when I get back," Blackmon said. "We're going to take as much time as it takes. I'm just being patient."

The Packers placed Blackmon on the physically unable to perform list at the start of training camp. If the foot isn't ready by the regular season, he would have to remain in that category until at least Oct. 17.

Between Oct. 17 and Nov. 7, the Packers could start having Blackmon practice for a 21-day period. After the 21 days, they either would have to activate him, cut him or place him on injured reserve.

"I don't necessarily assume that's the way it's going to be," general manager Ted Thompson said. "It kind of depends how quickly he responds. Everything's going well so far, though."

It could turn out to be a blessing in disguise because Blackmon, who had played wide receiver until the spring of 2005, was regarded as something of a project at cornerback. Plus, the Packers appear satisfied with Ahmad Carroll, Jason Horton and Mike Hawkins as their backup cornerbacks.

Blackmon, however, was counted on to challenge for the kickoff-return job and possibly the punt-return job. In college, he averaged 24.5 yards on kickoffs and 10.4 on punts.

Cornerbacks coach Lionel Washington said before camp that Blackmon, if healthy, would have about as much impact as Hawkins did as a rookie.

"He has great timing and a natural feel for it," Washington said. "Once he understands how to use his hands better this kid will be a good one."
TERD Buckley over Troy Vincent, Robert Ferguson over Chris Chambers, Kevn King instead of TJ Watt, and now, RICH GANNON, over JIMMY JIMMY JIMMY LEONARD. Thank you FLOWER

I second that. I'm really dissappointed to hear about this. I really would have liked him to compete for the punt and kickoff return duties.

When I watch Will Blackmon's skills on video, I am blown away with his athleticism. I see Reggie Bush like moves in this solid choice by T2.

What a shame that he won't be in TC and we have to wait . . but all good things . . .

RB Arliss Beach probably will be allowed to return this week, according to Thompson. Beach has been out since suffering a concussion July 30 after being belted by LBer Abdul Hodge in a blitz-pickup drill.

Ted Thompson indicated that RB Ahman Green (thigh) and LBer Brady Poppinga (knee) were close to returning

                                More . . . GOOD NEWS !

T Chad Clifton suited up for Monday night’s full-pads practice.

Clifton has missed several days of training camp due to a sore knee that was surgically repaired in the offseason. Clifton's return comes as welcomed news to the Packers, who are thin at tackle. Clifton participated in only one repetition in one-on-one drills against defensive linemen but was solid in his assignment stopping the attack of KGB.

Also suiting up Monday night were tight end Bubba Franks and running back Najeh Davenport. Both had sat out during Monday morning’s practice.

RB Arliss Beach practiced Monday after being out since July 31 with a concussion

                                On a bad note:

First-year safety Atari Bigby injured his right hand while making a tackle.

The hand was set in a cast, and Bigby was sidelined Monday. Bigby said between practices that he was to see a specialist in the afternoon. He feared the hand was dislocated or broken.

"I know it's something. It don't feel too good," Atari Bigby said.
