  • The Jon Gruden Education Hour

I've been listening to Jon Gruden tonight (I know, BIG mistake), but I have learned some valuable information that I would not have learned if I wasn't watching Monday Night Football.

A few of his gems tonight:

    1. Bill Belichick is the only coach who works with his young players and that is why New England is successful. (This was an incredible find. Finally I knew the secret to New England's success).
    2. The New England Patriots substitute players in and out of the game and break the huddle with more urgency than any other team. (Who knew something so seemingly insignificant had been mastered by the Patriots?)
    3. Coaches use the extra day to prepare when they have a Monday Night Football game. (I had often wondered what coaches did with that extra day. Hell, I wasn't totally sure they had an extra day until Gruden made me aware of it).

I think we can all add to this as we see fit during this season. Each game I hear more of Gruden's wisdom I will post here if I feel like it.

This is quality insight. I had assumed the coaching staff sat around smoking pot and playing twister.

More intellectual pursuits than I gave them credit for. I thought they watched Red Shoe diaries as a team building exercise.

I think Belichek has developed some unique "urgency drills" for the last part of his practices in order to have his team master this skill.

I thought he spent Sunday cutting the sleeves off his hoodies.
Bud Adams told me the franchise he admired the most was the Kansas City Chiefs. Then he asked for more hookers and blow.

I was doing some urgency drills, but now I just take Flomax.

I haven't been listening too closely to Gruden tonight, but I just heard a couple more gems of his.

"This is a two score game." Most viewers would not be aware of this, thank God that Gruden has such football expertise.

Now that by itself is enough NFL wisdom to shatter most minds, but if you are still stable after that, Gruden immediately followed that with

"The Vikings have 4 downs." This was truly a revelation to me. I may have to mute Gruden for my own health after this.

TERD Buckley over Troy Vincent, Robert Ferguson over Chris Chambers, Kevn King instead of TJ Watt, and now, RICH GANNON, over JIMMY JIMMY JIMMY LEONARD. Thank you FLOWER

Though Gruden isn't very insightful, I can handle listening to him vs. Kornheiser.

My favorite was when Gruden was pimping the Queens' run defense....which was immediately then gashed for a TD by Greene.

I like him somewhat but I think he goes way overboard pimping players. He is much better when providing "coach" insights.
