  • O-line

A lot of what we are seeing from Rodgers right now is what we saw early last season. He has no faith in his O-line, and looks "antsy" in the pocket. He's not settled to throw and even runs himself into sacks. It's understandable, because he rarely has a clean pocket to work in. Most of the time it is closing on him before he finishes his drop back.

Last year, the return to health of Clifton and the return of Tauscher seemed to have a settling effect, for whatever reason. Rodgers dropped back with confidence.

Not sure what can do it this year, if anything. Something needs to change for the Packers offense is to get untracked.

The other thing that happened last year was that the Packers started throwing shorter, quicker passes. It helped. Last year after the Tampa Bay loss, there was a team meeting. One of the offensive linemen stood up and said to Rodgers: "We need to play better, but you need to get rid of the ball quicker". Maybe they need to have that meeting again.

I think that was true last year, and might help this year too, but Rodgers doesn't seem to be holding the ball real long this year. Last year he hesitated at times, this year he hardly has time to even set up before the rush is on him. Just consider how much he is getting hit after he throws.

But I agree, some quicker developing plays might take some of the pressure off.

I think some running plays will take the pressure off. Wake today was coming out of a 4 point stance. A 4 point stance! That is the definition of "pinning your ears back." There is no respect for our running game.

Bulaga seems to lack overall strength. He'll be much improved after an offseason in the weight room.

Rodgers doesn't do himself any favors when he panics like that in the pocket. He's got to step up in the pocket so his tackles are at least in between him and their respective pass rushers. Ignoring the checkdowns is killing as well.

Holmgren knew that when your running game is just so-so, you mix it up and go against tendency. Stubby seems to have a really poor sense of this and struggles to to catch the defense off guard. They seem to know what's coming every down (And it's not hard when you go empty backfield).

It's obvious that Jackson is pretty good in space and can catch the ball. He should be a check down option on almost every play he's in there, and he should be in there more. He's not Roger Craig, but that's how they should use him. Stubby is too damn bull headed.
