  • Interesting video of Clay training with MMA

    I thought this was cool.
70% of the Earth is covered by water. The rest is covered by Al Harris.

AWESOME! As a PE teacher, I'm always looking for new things to do...so I love learning about this kind of stuff.
"I would love to have a guy that always gets the key hit, a pitcher that always makes his best pitch and a manager that can always make the right decision. The problem is getting him to put down his beer and come out of the stands and do those things." - Danny Murraugh

The viedo shows what I thought I have been seeing. Clay beats on blockers' arms mercilessly. By the 4th quarter. it seems he gioes uncontested at times. The way he gets low coming around the corner combined with his burst makes him a difficult target to block.

In light of how good Mr. Matthew's hand-work is now, it's interesting to look back at the reaction on the day of the draft from Mike Mayock (who is one of the draft pundits I respect the most):

The first thing Mayock wanted to say is that CM3 didn't use his hands very well off the snap and "you can't play him at the line of scrimmage."

Wow, that's a great video 3irty1. The Pack did a terrific job drafting this guy -- you just have to love his work ethic and willingness to try unconventional methods to achieve greatness.

A little history on those picks the Packers gave up. #41, #73 and #83 in 2009.

            #41 - Darius Butler - DB

            #73 - Derek Cox - DB - Jax
Pick was traded to Jax for 2009 #232(Edelman) and 2010 #44, which was then traded to Oakland(Lamaar Houston) for #42(Gronkowski) and #190 (Goethel) in the 2010 draft.

            #83 - Brandon Tate - WR

            I'd still rather have CMIII.

Yeah I remember seeing the video for Ryan Grant doing this stuff thinking man, he is getting ready to bust out this season. So sad it had to end before it even got started. Heres hoping Grant makes a full recovery. We need him next year.

How would you feel as an OL who had to face him, after seeing him practice throwing those knees into the heavy bag?

I'm guessing they will be wearing one of those arm pads before the season is over. imagine getting your arms hit like that, play after play.

In college, our DL always stressed "set the hat"....in other words, the DL would essentially head butt the OL on every snap of the ball. I remember in practice getting so sick of it, I would pull my head back, essentially unbalancing me, just so I'd stop getting hit in the head.

I know the head is way different than the arms, but if you are taking a beating, at some point you'll pull back, and that is when Clay arrives.

It pains me as an OL guy cheering for a defensive player, especially since Clay has 10.5 sacks, which means he has made a play 10.5 times out of the 200 or so against the offense...obviously I know Clay has done more than that, but I always hate when people make such a big deal of sacks. I could kick his tail for 3.5 quarters, and then he makes one play, and I look like an ass.

I doubt he would only make YOU look like an ass on ONE play!

Man, I love the mindset. MMA training is so practical for anyone really but especially for lineman and linebackers where it is mano a mano.

                        Great stuff!

Too bad Grant didn't get to showcase what he learned.

I know you watch the games, ND, come on. No one's making a "big deal" about his 10.5 sacks when it really comes down to it. It's the 3rd and 4th down stops, the hurries, the intimidation, the interceptions caused... the guy changes the entire complexion of the team. That's what people are making a big deal of; he's a complete maniac who seems to play at a different pace than everyone else.

I was mostly joking. Clay is awesome.

By the way, if Madden ever wants to put him on the cover, I'm going to personally find EA Sports, and totally "Clay-more" them....
