  • METRODOME BITES THE (SNOW) DUST

This deserves it's own thread. I've been waiting three decades for this horror, this abortion of modern architecture, this blight on humanity, this mortal sin of mankind, this pressurized balloon of a building to suffer it's long awaited and long deserved fate. Just so long as no one is hurt, this is a beautiful day. Oh, the SYMBOLISM of it all!!! Oh, the HUMANITY!!!!

Come fan with us. SB Nation is the largest independent sports media brand, consisting of SBNation.com, MMAFighting.com and over 300 fan-centric team communities.

If there's a better way to post video, someone can do it. See you around. I will be celebrating for a long, long time....

its funny how they call it a roof collapse. it rely didn't collapse has much as it just let the air out. more like a balloon bursting. on the fox video it looks like someone was in there on a cart and got the hell out of dodge when he saw the snow coming in!

I was thinking what it would have been like to get hit by that. The snow scattered the entire width of the field: that could have resulted in some serious injuries or worse.

Pretty similar to an avalanche, but without getting carried for 200 yards and buried.

Ice chunks, if they had what we did, would make it more like a rock slide.

The technical side of me found this interesting:

Roy Terwilliger head of the Commission told media: that his crews used procedures that have utilized before during snow storms, including using steam and hot water on the roof to remove the snow as it was falling.
"It was an extraordinary situation involving Mother Nature that the Dome's roof couldn't handle," Terwilliger said.
Heat inside the Dome was also turned up. Hot air was pumped into the in-between layers of the roof, all in an effort to save the inflated roof. "That didn't work," Terwilliger said.

Rumor here in the Cities is that they didn't turn the heat up quickly enough in the Dome to melt the snow when it first started.

How is this even possible? Major flaw in construction and sloppiness is my guess.

There was a report from the Metropolitan Commission in late summer about an inspection of the roof by the manufacturer. The roof is 28 years old. The life expectancy is 20 years. The manufacturer recommended five years ago that a planned replacement should be undertaken. They reiterated that upon inspection this summer. The Commission planned another inspection for 2014.

MN seems to be leading the nation in the game of construction chicken. First the I-35 bridge that was a noted inspection failure and now the Big Inflatable Toilet goes down. Next thing will be Target Field swallowed up by a sinkhole or something.
All hail the Ruler of the Meadow!

Sell Minnesota to the highest bidder or donate it to Canada! Do something - they are a disgrace
