  • R.I.P. - Dave Duerson

Found dead in his home in Miami at age 50.

A former Bear, I know, but I liked him anyway. I met him and had some minor dealings with him after he retired from the NFL, and I found him to be a very pleasant, likable individual during the few months that I was around him. Not a perfect man, but one who tried to be involved and influence things that he could.

A very smart guy who got a graduate degree from Harvard, as I recall.

    Too young to be gone.

Very sad. I have heard him interviewed and was impressed. I usually went out of my way to hear the entire thing, regardless of schedule.
Bud Adams told me the franchise he admired the most was the Kansas City Chiefs. Then he asked for more hookers and blow.

Cause of death was a self-inflicted gunshot wound.

Former NFL safety Dave Duerson died of a self-inflicted gunshot wound to the chest, according to reports from NBCChicago.com and the Chicago Tribune.
Both sites say Duerson's death Thursday at his Miami-area home was ruled a suicide. As of Saturday evening Miami-Dade police had yet to issue a ruling on Duerson's death.

Foul play was ruled out, the Tribune reported, because no one other than Duerson was seen entering his Miami condominium for two days before the shooting.

NBCChicago reported Duerson left a text message to love ones asking that his brain be left for NFL research.

That is so sad to go from that level of fame and success to shooting yourself in the chest. Obviously he thought it through because he chose the chest and asked that his brain be donated.
